Overview
IT Solution Architect Italy role at Thales. This position is part of the Network & Security squad within the Enterprise Architecture department and involves designing and building projects to guarantee the global consistency of the enterprise IT technical architecture.
Mission: The Technical Solution Architect designs solutions that satisfy business needs while assessing impacts on current systems architecture and ensuring compliance with IT standards, norms and rules. This role focuses on architectures that improve the organization’s network and infrastructure and support upcoming business and IT transformations.
Responsibilities
- Guarantee consistency of technical architecture and ensure compliance with enterprise architecture methodology, design principles, IT standards and norms
- Promote reuse of architecture components and patterns, favoring cost-efficient and sustainable designs
- Advocate technical design choices to ensure coherence across Thales Alenia Space countries
- Contribute to knowledge capitalization and sharing on the Information System through modeling, documentation, communications, trainings
- Propose updates to the architecture principles and rules repository
- Participate actively in architecture governance from demand to delivery
- Advise on technical architectures and solutions
- Design One-TAS technical architectures in response to business projects or architecture change requests
- Analyze technical impacts, ensuring coherence with existing architecture across countries (As-Is & To-Be)
- Propose designs respecting contextual constraints (priority, time, resources, organization & data)
- Inform stakeholders about issues with current technical solutions
- Collaborate with IT & Security teams to ensure performance, adaptability and interoperability objectives
- Facilitate architecture design, risk assessment, and security validation processes and document decisions
- Support and verify during implementation and rollout before production

- Research current and emerging technologies related to agreed management areas
- Identify opportunities/use-cases for sustainable benefits or addressing recurrent issues
- Participate in proofs of concept
Technical Skills
As a member of the Solution Architecture squad, the IT Solution Architect is involved in the following technical domains:
- Strong skills in Infrastructure domain (Storage, Backup, Data management, Virtualization, and security constraints)
- Storage: DAS / NAS / SAN / HCI / SDS; Mass Storage Units; Data storage structuration; Block Storage SAN; Deduplication; HCI / SDS Storage; Object Storage (S3/S3+)
- Backup / DRP: Physical/Virtual/End-user PC backup infrastructure, data archiving, DRP with RTO/DLO considerations, and related vendor skills
- Servers & Platforms: Dell/EMC / HPE platforms; Network and SAN interfaces; Legacy servers architecture and sizing; HCI virtualization (Nutanix / VSAN) sizing; Legacy Virtualization ESXi
- Virtualization: VMware full stack (vSphere, vSAN, NSX, vRealize)
- BigData Infrastructure: Docker / Kubernetes; network overlays; PV/PVC storage; Rancher / Ansible / Terraform / Packer; Elastic Search / InfluxDB; backup and recovery for metadata and data
- Datacenter Architecture and Servitudes: Energy/thermal constraints; electrical power balancing; data room architecture
Desirable architecture & technology certifications
- TOGAF
- VMware Certified Professional/Advanced Professional (including VCP-NV, VCP-DCV, VCP-CMA, VCP-Security)
- Microsoft Certified Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Google Professional Cloud Network Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- Cisco CCNP Enterprise
