BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the IT Solution Architect leads the technical aspects of the design and implementation of IT solutions, providing direction, instructions and guidance to off‑site development teams to develop solutions that fully comply with WFP standards and achieve the highest quality in technical usability, user acceptability and domain suitability.

ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design the software architecture and data model of IT solutions and support the Product Manager in presenting IT Solution Proposals to the Architectural Board.
  • Ensure the high technical quality of IT solutions and compliance with WFP standards (architecture, security, technology stack, UI, etc.).
  • Provide direction, instructions and guidance to off‑site Development Teams.
  • Prepare high‑level effort estimations for development of IT solutions.
  • Support the Product Manager with backlog grooming.
  • Review and approve prioritised backlog tickets for inclusion in sprints, considering completeness, clarity, conciseness, visual representation, dependencies, test data availability, BDD test scenarios, etc.
  • Create technical tickets to ensure quality and negotiate prioritisation with the Product Manager.
  • Request VPN accounts and renew them on time to ensure continuity of services.
  • Set‑up and maintain IT solution environments.
  • Collaborate on maintaining continuous improvement (CI) and continuous deployment (CD) infrastructure.
  • Create an inspiring team environment with open communication culture.
  • Perform other duties related to software development as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT
  • Well‑developed IT solutions fully compliant with applicable guidelines (architecture, security, technology stack, UI, etc.).
  • Clean source code in WFP source‑code repositories.
  • Documentation of IT solutions (Solution Proposals endorsed by the Architectural Board).
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Education

University degree or minimum of 8 years of equivalent working experience in software development or related fields.

Experience

At least 3 years of professional experience in software architecture and development.

Knowledge & Skills
  • In‑depth knowledge and proficiency with solutions architecture, high‑quality IT solutions, web technologies, Git, GitFlow, CI/CD, Agile Scrum, and mainstream software design & development methodologies.
  • Proven experience with Python and frameworks such as Django or Flask.
  • Proven experience with Docker, Kubernetes and general dockerization concepts and techniques.
  • Proven experience with CD/CI implementation and pipeline automation.
  • Understanding of accessibility, security compliance and design principles behind scalable IT solutions.
  • Knowledge of delivery platform differences (mobile vs desktop) and optimisation for specific platforms.
