UNICEF in Rome seeks an experienced data governance consultant to support UNICEF’s data governance initiatives, focusing on data readiness for AI, governance toolkit adoption, and stakeholder engagement across concurrent workstreams.

Under supervision of the Programme Manager, the consultant translates technical products into practical engagement materials, coordinates rollout, and strengthens organizational capacity to operationalize data governance.

Competenze

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Governance, Statistics, Public Policy with a data component.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in data governance, data management, data strategy, or related fields.
  • Experience with data quality, metadata management, data cataloguing, master data management, and data asset management.
  • Fluency in English is required; knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

How can you make a difference?

The overall objective of the assignment is to provide experienced support to OSE for the implementation, socialization and adoption of UNICEF’s data governance initiatives, and in particular to assess and improve UNICEF’s key data assets’ data readiness for AI. Working under the direction of the Programme Manager and in close collaboration with the Data Governance Specialist and the DG engagement consultant, the consultant will help steer major workstreams to completion, by translating agreed technical products, guidance and decisions into practical engagement materials, facilitate stakeholder engagement, coordinate implementation activities, support rollout and adoption, and strengthen organizational capacity to operationalize approved data governance products and services.

The consultant will provide support to the implementation, coordination, facilitation and adoption-support capacity to complement existing OSE data governance resources. The consultant will help to operationalize agreed products, support stakeholder uptake, document learning, and ensure timely follow-through across concurrent workstreams.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Governance, Statistics, Public Policy with a strong data component, or another relevant field related to data management and governance.
  • Work Experience: The consultant must possess:
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible professional experience in data governance, data management, data strategy, information management, data architecture, analytics, or related fields.
  • Experience establishing and supporting data accountability models.
  • Experience with data quality, metadata management, data cataloguing, master data management, and
  • data asset management.
  • Experience supporting AI readiness, responsible AI, or data preparedness initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience in international, multilateral, governmental, non-governmental, or development-sector organizations.
  • Skills :
  • Strong facilitation, stakeholder engagement, change management, and communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK or equivalent data management frameworks
  • Change Management and Adoption Frameworks
  • Demonstrated knowledge of UNICEF programmes, structures, and operating environment.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of another UN language is desirable
  • Desirables: Prior work experience with UNICEF strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with UNICEF or other United Nations agencies, international organizations, humanitarian organizations, development partners, or large federated organizations is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of child-rights-based approaches to data and responsible data practices is an asset.
