Hardware Test Engineer – EVSE & Energy Systems

Free2Move eSolutions (www.esolutions.free2move.com), a Stellantis company (www.stellantis.com) ready to become an international leader in the design, manufacture and supply of e-mobility products and services, is looking for a Hardware Test Engineer with a strong hands‑on and analytical mindset, experienced in the design, setup, and operation of laboratory test benches for AC/DC EVSE systems and Vehicle‑to‑Grid (V2G) applications.

You will be a key member of a multidisciplinary development team, working alongside system, electronic, and software engineers to validate, characterize, and enhance the hardware performance of new devices and components for e‑mobility and smart energy management solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Test Development and Execution
    • Design, build, and maintain laboratory test benches and simulation setups for AC and DC charging systems.
    • Develop manual or automated test procedures for validation of electronic components, power modules, and control units.
    • Perform electrical, thermal, and functional measurements on prototypes and production samples.
    • Analyze test results and prepare detailed technical reports, highlighting deviations, anomalies, and improvement opportunities.
    • Collaborate with the design team to identify and resolve hardware and system integration issues.
  2. Product Development Support
    • Provide technical input on testing requirements during the product specification phase (AC/DC EVSE).
    • Participate in the characterization and qualification of new electronic components, sensors, and power or control modules.
    • Support validation of communication and control functionalities (e.g., CAN, Modbus, OCPP, ISO 15118).
    • Contribute to electrical, environmental, and safety qualification according to relevant standards (IEC, EN, UL).
  3. Laboratory Management
    • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation (power supplies, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, network analyzers, EV simulators).
    • Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures and good laboratory practices.
    • Coordinate testing activities both internally and with external laboratories or certification bodies, when required.
Requirements and Skills
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics (or equivalent).
    • A technical diploma with significant hands‑on experience will also be considered.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Solid understanding of power electronics principles (AC/DC converters, inverters, PWM control, filters, protection circuits).
    • Ability to design and operate test benches for power and control circuits.
    • Experience with electrical measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power analyzers, electronic loads, network analyzers).
    • Knowledge of EVSE architectures (AC/DC) and relevant standards (IEC 61851, ISO 15118, CHAdeMO, CCS).
    • Familiarity with communication protocols used in energy and automotive systems (CAN, Modbus, TCP/IP).
    • Experience with automated testing tools or scripting (Python, LabVIEW, or similar) is a plus.
    • Understanding of electrical safety and EMC standards.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Analytical and detail‑oriented approach.
    • Strong teamwork and communication skills within multidisciplinary environments (hardware, software, systems).
    • Self‑motivated, organized, and capable of managing multiple test activities.
    • Effective technical reporting and documentation abilities.
    • Curiosity and a practical attitude toward experimentation and problem solving.
Role Objectives (First 12 Months)
  • Design and implement test benches for AC/DC EVSE and V2G controller validation.
  • Support product validation and certification activities (performance, safety, communication).
  • Collaborate with the development team to improve hardware reliability and robustness.
  • Develop and standardize testing and validation procedures for R&D and production use.
Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience in power electronics or embedded hardware testing.
  • Background in e‑mobility, smart grid, or renewable energy systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware/software environments or automated test setups.
What We Offer
  • Opportunity to work on innovative technologies in EVSE, V2G, and Virtual Power Plant fields.
