Job description

The UKA Group is one of the leading project developers for renewable energies in Germany with 1.5 GW of onshore wind projects under construction in its home market.

Furthermore, an impressive project pipeline of currently 6.5 GW in the international markets alone underlines its attractive business prospects abroad.

To further expand this international growth, the UKA Group is strengthening its presence in Italy - one of its focus markets - through its office in Rome, where a dedicated team is advancing a portfolio of utility-scale PV, onshore wind, and BESS projects.

Among the open positions, UKA is looking for a grid connection specialist to join our Italian team.

You will help turn our renewable energy projects into grid-connected assets, working from the first technical screening through to commercial operation.

Your responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with Terna, E-Distribuzione (Enel) and other DSOs from application through to commercial operation (CoD), managing the Terna and Enel web portals.
  • Review STMG/STMD documents and grid studies, lead technical round tables with operators sharing connection points, and follow up on sharing agreements ("Accordo di condivisione") and producer agreements ("Accordo produttori").
  • Define practical grid connection solutions through technical and economic assessments, identify grid constraints and connection options, and lead the connection strategy for new projects (capacity, voltage levels, reinforcement, curtailment).
  • Track the Italian transmission grid development plan, competitor grid solutions and regulatory changes (TICA, Italian Grid Code, CEI, ARERA), and assess their impact on UKA's projects.
  • Coordinate consultants on load flow, short-circuit, reactive power, protection and dynamic studies, and provide technical input on substations, cables, protection, metering and SCADA. Design PV and wind electrical layouts and review third-party designs.
  • Build technical and commercial relationships with EPC and design companies, following up on balance-of-plant (BoP) quotations, design preparation and review, and elaborate electrical scopes of work and commercial terms.
  • Monitor the cost, schedule and risk profile of the grid workstream, provide electrical BoP cost inputs to Development and Financial Modeling, and propose mitigation measures.
  • Contribute grid expertise to acquisitions, technical due diligence, investment and financing decisions, conduct site visits, and maintain accurate records, trackers and correspondence with network operators, reporting regularly to project development management.

Your profile:

  • MSc in Engineering with 4–6 years of professional experience in grid connection and electrical design management.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing technical documentation for grid access and connection requests.
  • PV syst and PV case experience is a plus.
  • Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Italian and English.
  • Knowledge of STMG/STMD processes, TICA, Terna Grid Code, CEI 0-16 and relevant MyTerna/GAUDÌ procedures.
  • Good technical understanding of MV/HV infrastructure, substations, transformers, protection and control systems, reactive power, metering and SCADA/telecontrol.
  • Ability to interpret and critically assess single-line diagrams, connection offers, grid studies and engineering documentation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to operate independently and interact confidently with network operators, consultants, EPC contractors and internal teams.

We offer to you:

  • Opportunity to work in an international environment.
  • An interesting range of tasks in a dynamically developing renewable energy industry.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • A friendly and supportive working atmosphere.
  • Hybrid working options/possibility of home office.
