Job summary

Università degli Studi di Padova invites applications for a research role focused on hydraulic modelling and flood risk assessment. The project involves reviewing state-of-the-art data, developing offline probabilistic methods, and constructing simplified hydraulic models to rapidly estimate water depth and velocity at pilot sites.

The candidate will define modelling components for a real-time forecasting chain, evaluate flood damage models, and prepare technical documentation and maps for

Qualifications

  • Degree (Bachelor's or higher) and PhD as applicable.
  • Diploma of specialization or certificates related to hydrology, hydraulics, or flood risk.

Responsibilities

  • Review state of the art and available data for hydraulic modelling and flood damage assessment at pilot sites.
  • Develop and apply offline probabilistic methods to estimate flood hazard and identify exposed areas.
  • Analyse, develop and test simplified hydraulic models for rapid, spatially distributed estimation of water depth, velocity and other variables.
  • Define and test modelling components for integration into the multi-hazard platform’s real-time forecasting chain.
  • Analyse and select flood damage models and functions suited to pilot sites and data.
  • Prepare technical documentation, maps and materials to share results with project partners.
