Chiesi in Nerviano, Milan, is seeking an Environmental Specialist to lead the site's environmental compliance strategy across projects and operations. You will manage environmental permits, liaise with authorities, and ensure alignment with Seveso requirements while collaborating with Process Safety and Seveso specialists.

The role focuses on developing the Site Environmental Management System, driving continuous improvement, and supporting regulatory audits and governance across the site.

Competenze

  • Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or other relevant scientific disciplines.
  • Proven experience in environmental management within pharmaceutical, chemical or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Good knowledge of Italian environmental legislation and permitting processes (D.Lgs.152/2006).
  • Fluent Italian and English.

Global Technical Operations & Supply

Global Technical Operations & Supply (Global TechOp&S) is Chiesi’s global manufacturing and supply area, responsible for ensuring consistent, outstanding quality, service and value across our end‑to‑end supply chain. Global TechOp&S oversees the entire lifecycle of the drug: from process optimization and industrialization, to manufacturing, engineering, quality oversight, and supply chain management. Throughout this journey, Operational Excellence drives continuous improvement. This end‑to‑end model is powered by our four manufacturing sites - Parma (IT), Blois (FR), Santana de Parnaíba (BR), and Nerviano (IT) - together with our Virtual Plant network of external partners.

This is what you will do

The Environmental specialist is responsible for leading the site's environmental compliance strategy throughout the project and operational lifecycle, ensuring full compliance with applicable environmental legislation, corporate standards and permit requirements.

The role is accountable for developing and maintaining the site's Environmental Management System, managing environmental permitting activities, supporting sustainable site development and ensuring environmental risks are effectively identified and managed.

Working in close collaboration with the Process Safety & Seveso Specialsit, the position contributes to the implementation of the site's Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) and Safety Management System (SMS) by ensuring that environmental aspects related to Seveso legislation are effectively addressed and integrated into site operations.

The position reports to the Head of HSE.

You will be responsible for
Environmental Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental legislation, corporate standards and permit requirements.
  • Manage environmental permits, authorizations and regulatory obligations (AUA/ AIA)
  • Act as the primary interface with environmental authorities and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate environmental inspections and support regulatory audits.
Environmental Management
  • Develop and maintain the Site Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001 principles.
  • Coordinate environmental aspects and impacts assessments.
  • Manage waste management programs, air emissions, wastewater, hazardous substances and environmental monitoring activities.
  • Monitor environmental performance through KPIs and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement environmental procedures, standards and operational controls.
Seveso & Environmental Risk Management
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the environmental elements of the site's Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) and Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Collaborate with the Process Safety & Seveso Specialist in environmental risk assessments associated with Major Accident Hazards.
  • Support environmental evaluations within the Management of Change (MOC) process.
  • Contribute to emergency preparedness and emergency response planning from an environmental perspective.
  • Ensure environmental permits and compliance obligations remain aligned with site operational changes and Seveso requirements.
Projects & Operational Readiness
  • Provide environmental support to engineering projects from design through commissioning and start-up.
  • Review environmental requirements for new facilities, equipment and process modifications.
  • Support environmental due diligence for new installations and process changes.
  • Promote Best Available Techniques (BAT) and environmental risk reduction measures during project execution.
Sustainability & Continuous Improvement
  • Support Corporate Sustainability initiatives and environmental reporting.
  • Contribute to biodiversity, energy efficiency, water stewardship and waste minimization programs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and resource efficiency.
  • Support ESG-related environmental initiatives.
Governance & Assurance
  • Participate in internal, corporate and external audits.
  • Manage corrective and preventive actions related to environmental findings.
  • Prepare environmental reports, KPIs and regulatory submissions.
  • Support Management Reviews and Corporate reporting activities.
Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Facilities, Corporate HSE and the Process Safety & Seveso specialist.
  • Support cross-functional project teams during site commissioning and operational readiness.
  • Promote environmental awareness and foster a proactive environmental culture across the organization.
You will need to have
  • Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or other relevant scientific disciplines.
  • Proven experience in environmental management within pharmaceutical, chemical or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Good knowledge of Italian environmental legislation and permitting processes (D.Lgs.152/2006).
  • Experience with Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).
  • Knowledge of Seveso legislation and environmental aspects associated with Major Accident Prevention is considered a strong advantage.
  • Fluent Italian and English.

  • Experience supporting Seveso or other major hazard industrial sites.

Compensation Range

The minimum salary for this role is € 39.000, aligned to our established salary framework. The final offer will reflect the candidate’s skills, experience, qualifications and internal equity considerations.
