Due to significant commercial growth in this sector, WSP's Power & Energy Services Team is looking to strengthen its capabilities by hiring an Electrical Engineer. The position is based in one of our offices in Rome or Rende.

Your Role

The successful candidate will join our multi-discipline and cross-national team supporting the development of projects in the renewables sector.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and support detailed electrical engineering for renewable energy projects (solar, wind, BESS).
  • Conduct site inspections and oversee commissioning activities to ensure compliance with design and safety standards.
  • Design and review low and medium voltage systems, including protection and control schemes.
  • Manage grid connection processes with TSO / DSO (e.g., Terna and Enel), from feasibility studies to final approval.
  • Prepare and evaluate technical documentation for interconnection requests and grid compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders (consultants, utilities, contractors).
  • Ensure compliance with Italian electrical standards (CEI, IEC) and grid codes.
  • Perform load flow, short-circuit, and other grid studies using tools like DigSILENT, ETAP, or similar.
  • Support tendering and construction phases with technical expertise and documentation.
  • Provide risk assessments and value engineering recommendations during project development.
  • Compile, verify and correlate data relating to engineering problems.
  • Assist in designs, studies, reports and preparation of process deliverables.
  • Perform calculations, simulations and preliminary analyses.
  • Participate in preparation of material requisitions, specifications and other related documents.
  • Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed.
  • Assist in development and verification of project controls documents and status reports.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in renewable energy projects, with focus on electrical design and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of regulatory codes and standards, and design / layout criteria pertinent to the renewable discipline.
  • Ability to produce quality deliverables within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Accuracy in calculations, completeness of data, and adherence to prescribed analysis / design methods.
  • Receives operational supervision and technical guidance from senior engineers; supports junior engineers' growth.
  • May provide technical direction to others performing design support assignments.
  • Strong written communication skills, evolving into technical writing proficiency.
  • Practices safe behaviors in field and office settings.
  • Open to feedback, coaching, and continuous improvement.
  • Able to manage workload and multiple commitments.
  • Demonstrates growth potential in both technical and soft skills.
  • Builds a professional network across the business unit.
  • Proven experience in MV and LV system design and grid connection procedures in Italy.
  • Familiarity with Italian regulations, CEI standards, and TERNA grid codes.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, DigSILENT, ETAP, or similar design / simulation software.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Fluent in Italian and English (written and spoken).
  • Willingness to travel across Italy for site activities.
