CMCC Foundation seeks an Early Career Researcher to monitor urban climate using Earth Observation and geospatial analysis. You will develop indicators for surface urban heat island, land cover changes, and morphology interactions with green infrastructure.

The role includes processing Landsat/Sentinel/MODIS data, validating results with in-situ data, and contributing to Horizon Europe projects. Flexible, collaborative environment in Caserta.

Competenze

• MSc / Laurea Magistrale in Geomatics, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Environmental or Civil Engineering or related fields; PhD encouraged.
• Experience in GIS and spatial analysis with raster and vector data processing.
• Experience with satellite imagery and Earth Observation data, land cover classification.
• Knowledge of urban climate processes, including urban heat island and cooling to green/blue infrastructure.
• Python programming for geospatial data analysis and reproducible workflows.
• Good English (at least B2) and ability to work in international research environments.

Mansioni

• Acquire, pre-process, and harmonise satellite and geospatial datasets for urban areas.
• Retrieve and analyze land surface temperature and surface urban heat island indicators.
• Support land cover classification and change analysis and relate urban morphology to thermal conditions.
• Validate satellite products against in-situ observations and other reference data.
• Develop reproducible geospatial workflows, preferably in Python, and document workflows.
• Define and compute spatial indicators for urban climate and heat exposure.
• Analyze heat mitigation options and cooling potential of green/blue infrastructure.
• Integrate Earth Observation with climate projections for urban climate risk assessment.
• Produce maps, datasets, figures for scientific use and public authorities, and support deliverables.
