Director of Project Development

A global player in the renewable energy industry is looking to appoint a Director of Project Development to lead large-scale solar PV and energy storage projects across Italy.

This senior role will be responsible for steering projects from initial site identification through to construction readiness, coordinating cross-functional teams, engaging with local authorities and stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with national permitting frameworks.

We are seeking a professional with solid experience in renewable energy development, proven leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of Italy's regulatory landscape.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the full lifecycle of large-scale renewable energy projects, from concept and site selection through to readiness for construction.
  • Formulate and drive project development roadmaps in sync with corporate objectives and evolving market trends.
  • Navigate and manage permit, licensing, and regulatory processes to ensure compliance and timely approvals.
  • Build and inspire a high-performing, cross-disciplinary project development team.
  • Act as a central liaison across Legal, Engineering, Compliance, and Land departments to maintain alignment and streamline execution.
  • Cultivate an environment of ownership, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving.
Budgeting, Reporting & Stakeholder Management
  • Own and monitor project-level budgets, safeguarding cost discipline and economic feasibility.
  • Engage proactively with external parties—local governments, landholders, agents, and vendors to build trust and partnerships.
  • Oversee document preparation and reporting, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and clarity.
Land Strategy & Site Agreements
  • Provide strategic guidance for land-related planning and support the team in alignment with overall development goals.
  • Lead negotiations for land leases, service contracts, and grid connection agreements.
  • Supervise environmental reviews and constraint analyses to validate site suitability and minimize risks.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Law, or Economics.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in managing complex projects in the PV sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Italian regulations and permitting processes.
  • Advanced English skills.
