A global aerospace and defense leader is looking for a Senior Technology Domain Architect to guide the alignment of technology architecture with business strategies. The ideal candidate will have over 5 years of experience in technology architecture, strong communication skills, and a proven record of delivering infrastructure transformation initiatives. This role offers a hybrid working model based in Italy, particularly in Genova.

Within the GCAP Joint Venture, in the GCAP Technical Leadership UO, we are looking for a Technology Domain Architect for GCAP HQ in Reading (UK).

The Technology Domain Architect is responsible for aligning the organisation's strategic objectives with its core technology platforms, infrastructure, and technical capabilities. The Technology Domain Architect partners with business and technology stakeholders to define and evolve the target technology architecture, ensuring it supports enterprise strategies, enables scalability and security, and drives operational efficiency. The Technology Domain Architect also acts as a strategic advisor, shaping and delivering initiatives that modernise and optimise the organisation's technology foundation.

Key Capability Accountabilities
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to define and evolve the target technology architecture, in line with enterprise and functional strategies.
  • Identify opportunities to modernise, consolidate, or optimise technology assets to increase scalability, reduce technical debt, and improve cost-efficiency.
  • Document and maintain the current technology architecture and define transition states to realise the desired target state.
  • Translate the target state technology architecture into a set of strategic initiatives and roadmaps required to evolve the underlying technology landscape.
  • Partner with the wider Enterprise Architecture function and Value Streams to analyse the impact of the target technology architecture on data, applications, and business processes.
  • Lead and/or support the development of business cases required to deliver the target technology architecture, including cost-benefit and risk analysis.
  • Work alongside the Enterprise Architecture Senior Manager to define and evolve architectural principles, standards, and guardrails relevant to infrastructure, cloud, and platform design.
  • Ensure that both the technology architecture development process and its outputs comply with organisational standards, policies, and governance.
  • Analyse industry and technology trends to determine their potential impact on the organisation's technical landscape.
  • Elicit and analyse strategic technology requirements, partnering with infrastructure, operations, and cybersecurity teams to ensure a secure and scalable foundation.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate technical risks related to technology architecture initiatives, ensuring system reliability and compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Collaborate with Solution Architects, Infrastructure Leads, and Engineering teams to implement architectural strategies and ensure alignment with the broader enterprise architecture vision.
Objectives
  • Establish, own, and evolve the technology architecture for the organisation, including but not limited to infrastructure, cloud services, technical platforms, and other enabling technologies.
  • Define and secure buy-in for the target state technology architecture and the strategic initiatives and/or roadmaps required to realise this outcome. Partner with the Enterprise Architecture function to identify, analyse, and manage the impact of technology architecture changes on the business, data, and application domains.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, platform, or technology architecture roles, preferably in a heavily regulated industry (Aerospace & Defence)
  • Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure, hybrid/multi-cloud environments, platform services, and associated operational concerns (e.g., scalability, performance, security)
  • Experience developing and implementing target state technology architectures and roadmaps
  • Familiarity with architecture modelling techniques and notations
  • Proven ability to assess complex technical environments and recommend modernisation strategies
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Track record of successfully delivering infrastructure or technology transformation initiatives
  • Confidence operating in complex, hybrid, or greenfield environments with practical and solution-oriented mindset
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • High ethical standards when handling confidential information
Desiderable Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • TOGAF Certification
  • Cloud Architecture Certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Architect Expert)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or equivalent
  • ITIL or equivalent
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) and related certifications are preferred
  • Experience with enterprise architecture tools and modelling languages (e.g., ArchiMate, UML)
  • Understanding of data, business, and application architecture domains and their interdependencies
  • Hands‑on experience with application integration platforms and middleware technologies
  • Familiarity with DevOps and agile delivery practices

Language Skills: English C1.
