A leading technology company in Italy is seeking a skilled Controls Application Engineer to work in Piove di Sacco. The successful candidate will manage the entire lifecycle of embedded PLC software for complex thermal engineering machinery. This role involves developing application software, maintaining existing systems, and collaborating with various teams to optimize performance. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least 2 years of relevant experience. Strong programming skills and the ability to collaborate effectively are essential.

Competenze

Minimum of 2 years relevant project experience with controls and automation equipment.
Understanding of IEC 61131-3 standards for PLC programming.
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

We are looking for Controls Application Engineer to join our team in Piove di Sacco, Italy!

As Controls Application Engineer you will be responsible for working along the entire Embedded PLC Software Life-cycle, which is used to control complex thermal engineering machinery for Application SW complex projects:

Translates software and hardware requirements into concise and robust programming code and document it, work as team player with other Controls Engineers to match the customer needs.
Provides solid configuration management to each part of the project and act according to release plans.
Provides software support to all areas of the company that requires it, such as Sales, Offering, System Engineering, Procurement, Operation and Service.

What kind of work will you be doing?

Development of New Application Software

Translate high level application requirements into Software Specifications, producing the related deliverables (documentation, Scope of Operations, test plans).
Design, develop and implement PLC programs and applications that respond to given requirements.
Perform prototyping, application tests and code reviews to ensure product quality.
Validate the released software attending tests in Lab and occasionally in the field, reporting bugs and proposing possible improvements.
Deliver training and product handover to relevant stakeholders – Academy, Application Engineering and Service.

Application Software Life-Cycle Maintenance

Maintain existing software baselines, perform debugging, testing, code improvement and re-designing tasks, including the configuration management process.
Review hardware and components evolution and phase‑in/phase out, adapting and redesigning according to the need.
Collaborate with Service and Quality teams to optimize products and ensure products stay up‑to‑date and continue to satisfy customer needs.
Coordinate troubleshooting of high‑level PLC issues, with development teams and appropriate methodology.
Prepare training documents for maintenance and production teams, explaining the operation and troubleshooting of complex control systems.

What will make you successful?

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Information or a related field of study) OR the equivalent combination of education and/or years of relevant work experience.
Minimum of 2 years relevant project experience working with controls and automation equipment related to development, debugging, setup as well as, support and troubleshooting of industrial chillers and/or air conditioners.
Understanding of Programming Logic Controllers according to IEC 61131‑3 standards or similar.
Ideally, also understanding of other programming and scripting languages (C/C++, C#, Javascript, HTML), even academic.
MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer literacy.
Good English written and oral communication skills.
Must be a self‑starter, team player, work well with others and have a positive attitude.
Must be a creative thinker, results oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy.
Must have ability to prioritize, multi‑task and meet deadlines.
Sharp, quick, dedicated and innovative problem solver.
