Overview
Maire S.p. A., a company listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, leads an engineering group operating in around 50 countries with approximately 50 active companies. It develops and implements innovative technologies supporting the energy transition and offers Sustainable Technology Solutions and Integrated E&C Solutions for fertilizers, hydrogen, CO2 capture, fuels, chemicals, and polymers. It is seeking a Civil & Structural Steel Senior Engineer to join Tecnimont S.p. A., within the Civil & Structural function.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
- Cooperate with the Project Director/Manager (PD/PM), Project Engineering Manager (PEM) and Civil Discipline Lead (DL) in the execution of steelwork activities.
- Report functionally to the Discipline Lead for project-specific details and hierarchically to the Group Leader or Head of Department for company standards, including man-hours and deliverable quality.
- Prepare and discuss with the project team the execution strategy (including project schedule) and ensure application throughout the project life cycle.
- Cooperate with the PEM and DL to create and maintain project procedures, guidelines and standards.
- Coordinate activities across locations and engineering centers, ensuring document consistency with contract, adherence to schedule, contract requirements, budget and quality.
- Interact with client representatives and vendors on technical topics affecting time and cost; assist Procurement, Inspection and Construction as required.
- Ensure the quality and compliance of deliverables with contractual requirements within budget and schedule; support updating department and company standards, procedures and work instructions.
- Ensure steel works design for process industrial buildings, pipe racks, warehouses, etc., based on DL guidance and in agreement with other disciplines; coordinate steel detailing engineering subcontractors and steel vendors.
- Coordinate across engineering centers, check documents, and secure cost optimization; ensure 3D model and drawings extraction for steel works; coordinate with other disciplines (Layout & Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation, Design HSE, Mechanical, Utilities/Power Process, HVAC).
- Participate in planning and monitoring steel works activities from basic design through fabrication to site erection; prepare progress reports for PD/PM, PEM, DL, GL and HoD.
- Coordinate a group of specialists/engineers to check and approve vendor documents (erection and shop drawings, BOM, 3D model).
- Coordinate material requisition cycle (issue, bid evaluation, vendor qualification, supply follow-up); provide feedback to department chief on procedures' application; keep updated on department developments and improvements.
- Provide technical training per department and company needs; share experience within the Tecnimont Group; stay updated on technical improvements and transfer knowledge.
- Monitor market State of the Art to provide technical and commercial evaluations of new products, technologies, workflows, and applications.
Qualifications & Personal Attributes
- Master’s degree in civil engineering preferred; minimum 5 years of experience in steel vendor coordination, preferably in plant engineering within petrochemical, oil & gas and power sectors.
- Experience coordinating international steel vendor suppliers or steel mechanical subcontractors distributed across multiple locations.
- Experience in coordinating engineering teams; basic knowledge of project management (e.g., Progress S-Curve).
- Expert in Tekla Structures for modeling; expert in AutoCAD 2D drawings and Autodesk Navisworks for clash detection.
- Knowledge of collaborative environments such as BIM360/ACC and/or Trimble Connect; BIM Specialist/Coordinator experience is a plus; Expediter and Steel Manufacturing experience are pluses.
- Fluent English (written and spoken); Italian is a plus; willingness to travel for short and long periods.
