We are seeking a Technical Director to lead Astradyne’s engineering and R&D functions. The ideal candidate has significant experience in both the space sector (systems engineering, satellite missions) and photovoltaic technologies (with strong focus on manufacturing processes). At a minimum, expertise in one of these two areas is required.
You will be responsible for guiding engineering teams, overseeing product development from early-stage research through prototyping, and ensuring technical excellence across projects. You will also work closely with the leadership team to shape the company’s technological roadmap.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to R&D and engineering teams across multiple projects, establishing technical processes and milestones (e.g. TRL reviews, design reviews).
- Oversee technical development of new photovoltaic and space systems from concept through prototyping, translating R&D outcomes into manufacturable products and scalable processes.
- Ensure compliance with space qualification standards and technical requirements for mission success, coordinating environmental testing campaigns.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to define and execute the technological roadmap, balancing short-term deliverables with long-term innovation goals across both terrestrial and space applications.
- Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, and technical rigor, while mentoring and growing a multidisciplinary team.
- Represent Astradyne's technical vision to partners, investors, and institutional stakeholders.
- Translate high-level business objectives into detailed technical roadmaps, budgets, and resource allocations.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks across R&D and product development, ensuring resilience in both design and manufacturing.
- 5-10 + years of professional experience in space systems engineering, satellite missions, or photovoltaic technologies.
- Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Experience overseeing satellite missions flying to orbit or managing advanced photovoltaic technology development.
- Strong knowledge of system integration, testing, and qualification of space-grade systems.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Preferred qualifications:
- PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience collaborating with ESA, NASA, or other major space agencies.
- Familiarity with photovoltaic manufacturing processes, cleanroom assembly, or space-qualified solar technologies.
- Prior experience in a director-level or senior technical management role.
- Strong professional network in the space or energy sectors.
- Proven experience in developing and managing intellectual property portfolios within the space or photovoltaic sector.
- Strong background in implementing and overseeing quality assurance and certification processes in the aerospace or photovoltaic industry (e.g., familiarity with ECSS, ISO, or other aerospace/energy qualification standards.)
- A fast-paced, mission-driven environment: Work within a team of highly qualified individuals and play a key role in Astradyne's growth.
- A salary package that reflects your expertise and leadership.
- Innovative culture: A workplace that values creativity, initiative, and professional development.
- Impactful work: Lead the mission to revolutionize solar energy for space and terrestrial applications.
- Fantastic workplace: Bari offers beautiful beaches, fantastic weather, and food so good it could outshine even our most advanced solar panels.
