ABOUT THE ROLE
W Rome is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Sales with a background in International MICE Sales Management to join our vibrant luxury lifestyle hotel. This key leadership role supports the Director of Sales & Distribution in driving revenue across the MICE and group segments while also conducting all day‑to‑day activities related to the sales function with a focus on building long‑term, value‑based customer relationships. You will play a pivotal role in promoting W Rome as the premier luxury destination for international groups, conferences, meetings, and prestigious events and in achieving segment revenue goals, property revenue goals, and guest and employee satisfaction.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in luxury hospitality sales, a passion for excellence, and the ability to inspire high performance within the sales team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Developing & Executing Sales Strategies
- Prepare, execute and lead the development and execution of sales strategies focused on international groups and events, corporate groups, and high‑profile events (entertainment, social gatherings).
- Work with sales leaders to ensure understanding of the sales strategy and its effective implementation for the key hotel segments.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the lifestyle hotel concept, tailoring strategies to attract and convert clients aligned with the brand’s positioning (design‑conscious travelers, boutique group experiences, post‑event social gatherings).
Maximizing Revenue
- Support the Director of Sales & Distribution in achieving revenue and market share goals.
- Manage a portfolio of key corporate and group accounts ensuring superior service, repeat business, and revenue growth.
- Promote awareness of the brand image internally and externally using sales techniques that maximize revenue while maintaining existing guest loyalty to Marriott.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the lifestyle hotel concept, tailoring strategies to attract and convert clients aligned with the brand’s positioning.
Managing Sales Activities
- Develop key segments and actively identify new business opportunities and markets through outreach, networking, trade shows, site inspections, industry events, and client‑facing engagements to proactively generate inquiries across the MICE and entertainment segment.
- Team up with international Marriott Global Sales colleagues to target the right international clients.
- Present and organize site inspections for prospective clients showcasing hotel capabilities and event spaces.
- Use business information to manage everyday operations and generate innovative solutions for team business and administrative challenges.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of competitive market trends, event industry developments, and emerging client needs within lifestyle hospitality segments—including wellness, creative industries, and experiential travel.
Analyzing & Reporting on Sales and Financial Data
- Analyze market information using sales systems to implement strategies that achieve the property’s financial, room, and catering goals.
- Review guest‑satisfaction results to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare and present sales reports, forecasts, and market insights to support strategic decision‑making.
Building Successful Relationships
- Collaborate with off‑property sales channels (Event Booking Center, Market Sales, GSOs) to ensure property needs are met and sales efforts are complementary, not duplicative, targeting the right international clients.
- Maintain a high level of product knowledge and brand representation in all client interactions.
- Integrate guest satisfaction into department meetings with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Execute and support the company’s customer‑service standards and property brand standards.
Additional Responsibilities: Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to meet performance targets.
- Evaluate and adapt the structure of team assignments and work processes to best fit the unit’s needs and goals.
- Provide guidance and feedback to help individuals develop and strengthen skills needed to accomplish objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum 4‑5 years of experience in luxury hotel sales with a strong focus on MICE and group segments.
- Deep understanding of international markets.
- Proven track record of securing and growing group and event business in a luxury hotel environment.
- Availability to travel for business development and trade events.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to develop and manage strategic account plans for high‑value clients and maintain long‑term relationships.
- Solid analytical abilities with proficiency in using data to guide decisions and performance metrics.
- Proven experience in team leadership and sales team management within a luxury hospitality environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead with a collaborative, empowering, and performance‑driven style.
- Strong interpersonal skills to motivate, inspire, and develop talent.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Italian is essential. Other languages are a plus.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across departments.
- High attention to detail, creativity, and organizational excellence.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior exposure to luxury hotel brands.
- Experience using Marriott Sales & Catering or similar hotel CRM and sales systems.
- Knowledge of and understanding of luxury lifestyle hotels and related segments.
