In recent years, artificial intelligence and machine learning have emerged as a transformative tool in climate research. As part of our commitment to cutting‑edge research, CMCC is launching a groundbreaking Program on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML). This program will focus on predicting the impacts of climate change across various domains, including agriculture, urban systems, coastal areas, and societal sectors. At the heart of this initiative stands our Super Computing Center, the most powerful computational facility in Italy, and among the best in Europe, exclusively dedicated to climate change research. Its constant upgrades will further enhance the development and application of machine‑learning techniques to address complex climate science challenges.
To lead this exciting new venture, we are looking for a team leader, a senior scientist, two junior scientists and two software developers to establish a dynamic core group focused on AI/ML. This team will spearhead pioneering climate research and adaptation initiatives. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of technological innovation, contributing to significant global change and turning ambitious visions into reality. Additionally, you will have the chance to collaborate with all three Institutes of CMCC, gaining insights from some of the leading experts in climate research.

The Program Director will head the AI/ML Program, overseeing and coordinating the activities of the AI/ML research group. Their leadership will be key to advancing innovative research in artificial intelligence and machine learning, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the overall success of the program. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in building, guiding, and managing a team of approximately six professionals, including scientists, junior scientists, and AI/ML application developers.
