The University of Bologna is announcing a fully funded doctoral scholarship in Computational Linguistics starting November 1, 2019. The successful candidate will research ancient Aegean scripts using various Natural Language Processing techniques, contributing to the INSCRIBE project.
The Department of Classical Philology and Italian Studies, Alma
Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna, in conjunction with the ERC
Consolidator project INSCRIBE (Invention of Scripts and their
Beginnings), seeks applications for one doctoral scholarship, fully
funded for three years, starting on the 1st November 2019.
Applications will be considered for research in Computational
Linguistics. The appointed candidate will be researching ancient
undeciphered scripts of the Aegean Bronze age dating to the II
millennium BC by using all the computational techniques available in the
Natural Language Processing field

Given a solid background in Computational Linguistics, seen as a
prerequisite, expertise in the following topics will be considered a
competitive advantage:
– Python programming and tensor manipulation libraries
(specifically Tensorflow and Pytorch);
– Deep Neural Network architectures
(especially Convolutional Neural Networks);
– Experience in image processing techniques.
