We are hiring a Senior Backend Engineer for our CODE team - Challenges & Gamification Squad in Portugal!

CODE is an acronym for Consumer Digital Experience, focusing on the experience and services guiding people's wellbeing journey. Our goal in CODE is to make every company a wellness company, from providing access to exclusive benefits to leveraging our partner network for end-user experience.

CODE teams develop and maintain Wellhub's app, frontend and backend services, and Design System, collaborating with product, UX, and data teams to enhance user experience.

The Challenges & Gamification Squad aims to make user engagement more fun by creating new products and integrating with health data platforms like AppleHealth and Google Health for seamless data sharing within the Wellhub ecosystem.

YOUR IMPACT

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be a passionate developer committed to high-quality, timely delivery. You will participate in and lead architectural decisions, propose improvements, and collaborate closely with product and business stakeholders in an agile environment.

You will own critical features, review code, mentor less experienced developers, and be a technical reference within your team. You will also advocate for data-driven decision-making, simplicity, innovation, and continuous learning.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you :

• Deliver high-quality work on time, perform code reviews, and develop reusable code
• Lead architectural decisions, suggest improvements, and ensure design documentation is current
• Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to influence business outcomes
• Ensure successful delivery and maintain the technical health of projects
• Take ownership of critical features, monitoring KPIs and ensuring quality standards
• Promote best practices like code review, pair programming, TDD, and share knowledge
• Mentor junior developers
• Participate in incident resolution and troubleshooting
• Foster a wellbeing-focused environment, promoting work-life balance and team support

Main requirements

Qualifications :

• At least 5 years of experience in web development and a true team player
• Experience designing and developing complex modern web applications
• Experience with RESTful APIs and collaboration with front-end teams
• Proficiency in at least two programming languages such as Go, Scala, Kotlin, or Java
• Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, Redis
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ
• Experience with prototypes, MVP, A/B testing, feature toggles
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, problem-solving
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and KPIs
• Knowledge of microservices, distributed systems, and AWS cloud architecture
• Excellent communication skills in English and Portuguese
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, multi-task, and adapt quickly

Nice to have

• Experience with System Integrations
• Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence)
