Description

Hitachi Rail is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Data Scientist who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will perform a range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Naples, Pistoia, Genova, Piossasco, Tito, or Reggio Calabria.

Mission

In this role, you’ll apply data science methods and analytics to real-world business situations across various industries. Successful candidates are curious, action-oriented, focused, and communicative.

Accountabilities

TECHNICAL

• Programming (e.g., Matlab, R, Python, SAS, Scala, Octave)
• Knowledge of C / C++, Java
• Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Alterix, Tableau, Meridian, Qlik, PowerBI)
• Ability to select algorithms and develop models
• Writing high-quality code
• Knowledge of Big Data frameworks like Spark and Hadoop
• Knowledge in AI and IoT
• Machine Learning techniques (e.g., optimization, supervised learning, operations research, Monte Carlo simulation, hypothesis testing, dimensionality reduction, NLP, text mining, social network analysis)

DIGITAL

• Stakeholder collaboration to generate hypotheses and translate data into insights
• Learning agility
• Driving innovation through emerging analytics trends
• Digital awareness

• Adaptable with the ability to translate technical jargon and communicate effectively

Required Skills / Knowledge

• PhD or Master’s in computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, or related fields with 2-5 years of relevant experience
• Proven record of extracurricular activities, accomplishments, and leadership
• Experience with predictive modeling, customer segmentation, network analysis, supply chain optimization, etc.
• Fluency in scripting languages such as Python or R

Languages

Fluency in Italian and English is required.
