Support the deployment of the Johnson and Johnson Innovative Medicines Supply Chain (JJIMSC) vision "Transforming our world, delivering affordable medicines to anyone, anywhere, any day" by focusing on driving performance of the manufacturing network, its physical assets, processes, products, technical resources, and optimizing Cost of Goods produced.

Strategic Operation & Packaging is part of J&J Innovative Medicine supply chain, a global organization responsible for supplying medicines to markets around the world. With Quality as their primary focus, this group strives to provide access and affordability through innovation and collaboration with R&D and Commercial partners to deliver life-changing solutions for patients in need.

J&J Innovative Medicine supply chain (JJIMSC) is recruiting for a Senior Packaging Engineer within the Strategic Operation & Packaging department, part of the Manufacturing Science and Technologies organization.

The Senior Packaging Engineer will provide temperature control qualification, distribution studies, shipping route verification, and other packaging-related SME support to JJIMSC.

This role involves leading and collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop, test, qualify, and commercialize passive solutions (including cold, frozen, and cryogenic shipping solutions) for new products and lifecycle management, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and JJSC guidelines.

Responsibilities include supporting secondary and tertiary packaging for new product launches, technical transfers, lifecycle management activities, and providing technical support for packaging sites and projects.

General Responsibilities

  • Lead transportation study activities, including physical and simulated distribution testing and temperature control qualification.
  • Support product protection testing, packaging line trials, equipment qualifications, and human factor studies.
  • Support shipping route verification activities.
  • Provide day-to-day packaging material support for the supply chain.
  • Assist with lifecycle packaging equipment, process transfers, and new product launch support, including qualification activities.
  • Provide technical support for quality and compliance investigations related to packaging.
  • Identify and implement cost improvement projects and efficiency initiatives.
  • Design and develop packaging solutions considering patient/end-user preferences.
  • Manage collaborations within JJIMSC teams and external partners for product introduction and technical transfers.
  • Drive the development of innovative packaging technologies and optimize existing processes.
  • Support sustainability and environmentally friendly packaging initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering or related field.
  • At least six years of experience in cold chain, packaging, labeling, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of passive shipping solutions, packaging materials, and distribution testing.
  • Experience with validation and qualification of packaging equipment and processes is preferred.
  • Experience in regulated industries such as pharma, biologics, or medical devices is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cGMP is required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global environment and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Project management and certification credentials are a plus.

Location options include Latina (IT), Schaffhausen (SW), Titusville (US), or worldwide, with a preference for the EMEA region.

Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.

Physical requirements include working across different time zones with travel at a minimum of 10% as needed.
