Accountabilities

  • Identify new business opportunities, including markets, trends, customers, partners, products, and services; maintain relationships with current customers.
  • Generate leads by identifying appropriate contacts within organizations and engaging prospective customers and partners.
  • Understand customer needs and respond effectively with strategic plans to meet and develop business objectives.
  • Attend industry seminars, conferences, and events as appropriate.
  • Establish a network with senior executives from rail operators, equipment suppliers, associations, and other stakeholders in Europe.
  • Contribute to the global R&D roadmap by identifying technological trends and product needs in Europe.
  • Manage relationships and escalations with regional customers, partners, and industry associations.
  • Support the promotion of business opportunities and coordinate with External Communications & Marketing.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of company products / services, industry competition, and positioning.
  • Manage all sales activities, ensuring alignment with internal departments and leading team efforts.
  • Create and maintain a sales pipeline, perform sales forecasts and analyses.
  • Monitor and report on sales performance to ensure targets are met, with support from the CFO unit.
  • Support bidding processes, negotiations, and contract acquisition.
  • Implement standards, processes, and tools for sales, approvals, contracting, and customer / partner management.
  • Identify opportunities to mitigate contract risks and develop commercial risk mitigation strategies.
  • Deliver high-quality solutions and services, ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Support in the approval and bid authorization processes according to standards.
  • Adhere to Hitachi Rail’s Health and Safety policies.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Tenacity, drive, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills to seek new business and exceed targets.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with strong networking abilities.
  • Proficiency in IT, project management, and organization.
  • Understanding of contracts, terms & conditions, and finance, including Public Private Partnership schemes.
  • Knowledge of railway transportation markets, models, and technical / economic aspects.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Critical thinking, creativity, multitasking, negotiation, problem-solving, and results orientation.
  • Willingness to travel frequently.
  • Business acumen regarding costs and margins, data analysis skills.
  • Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • International experience with Rolling Stock and Turnkey projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven experience as Business Development Manager, Sales Manager, or Project Manager in the rail or complex industrial products industry.

Education / Qualifications

University Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Economics, with a proven positive attitude towards complex industrial products business.

Languages

Mandatory : Italian and English. Aim to include German and French language skills.
