We are hiring a Web Engineering Manager to collaborate with various teams, including product managers and other engineering teams, to deliver reliable, scalable, and engaging user experiences for Canonical products.

The primary responsibility of an Engineering Manager at Canonical is to support your team members: ensuring their growth as web engineers, meaningful work, and a positive experience at Canonical. You will lead skilled engineers, provide technical leadership, and have a solid background in web development to challenge and develop your team. You will influence company culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategy and execution with your team.

Location: This role is remote within the EMEA region.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles by contributing directly to team goals
  • Estimate work, set goals, and deliver results
  • Design and implement well-tested, documented software using Web technologies or Flutter
  • Debug and resolve user issues
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews
  • Collaborate on technical specifications with community and colleagues
  • Contribute to high-quality technical documentation
  • Improve engineering and operational practices
  • Deploy and operate team-developed services
  • Promote technical advocacy to support product success

Candidate requirements:

  • Passion and knowledge in web and software development
  • Valuing soft skills: passionate, enterprising, thoughtful, self-motivated
  • Strong academic record from high school and university
  • Degree in Computer Science or STEM, or an alternative compelling narrative
  • Proven drive and a history of exceeding expectations
  • Organized, self-starting, and reliable in delivery
  • Professional in interactions with colleagues, partners, and community
  • Experience designing and developing high-quality Web technologies
  • Experience with Typescript, React, or Flutter
  • Focus on accessibility and performance
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Experience with Linux (preferably Debian or Ubuntu)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, adaptability, and accountability
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Results-oriented with a personal commitment to meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel twice a year for up to two weeks

Nice-to-have skills:

  • Experience with container technologies like LXD, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience in building and leading talented teams
  • REST API design, development, and governance
  • Performance engineering and security expertise
