FIREFIGHTER (FIREFIGHTING EQUIPMENT OPERATOR)

NOTE : This is a trainee position, target UC-06. Position will be filled at the UC-07 grade level. Incumbent may be promoted non-competitively to the UC-06
grade level upon completion of necessary training and after he / she has met the necessary qualification requirements, quality of experience and upon
recommendation of the supervisor.

Incumbent serves as a Firefighter (Firefighting Equipment Operator) in the U.S. Army Garrison Italy Fire Department. Is assigned to a firefighting crew
responsible for emergency response on the Army installation(s). Responsible to provide fire and emergency service response for multiple sites involving
diverse fire hazards including highly flammable liquids, high explosives, and other non-standard hazards in facilities such as maintenance facilities,
communication sites, ammunition storage, vehicles, automatic data processing system buildings, major storage depots, places of assembly, schools,
theaters, and family housing areas. The firefighter is involved in the full spectrum of fire and emergency service response assigned to the Garrison Fire
Department. This includes, but is not limited to, a wide variety of firefighting, hazardous material response, and related aid and rescue work associated with
facilities and operations at the garrison. For combined responses, the firefighter has to interact directly with Host Nation responders, also for potential multiagency emergencies. On a regularly recurring basis, drives and operates a staffed heavy emergency firefighting unit to fire emergency, incident, or drill site.Operates pumps, foam generators, and other related equipment. Assures the proper functioning of all firefighting and rescue systems of the unit. Employee performs maintenance tasks on firefighting apparatus, equipment, extinguishers, and facilities. Participates in training sessions in-house, at joint exercises or at outside service providers such as fire schools. Based on assignment of department training officer, prepares and gives specific training sessions.
NOTE : Tour of duty is 42 hours per week on 12-hour rotating shifts which cover the 24 hours and include weekends, holidays, and days of rest. Incumbent is
subject to daily training to maintain proficiency.
Applicants must have one year of general work experience, that is any type of work, not necessarily related to firefighting.
NOTE : A command of the English language sufficient to understand basic Fire Protection and Prevention terminology is required.
