Your Purpose
We have an exciting opportunity to join our growing Site Team as a Marine Safety and Structure Specialist. Reporting to the Site Director, you will be responsible for providing supervision and acceptance to the hull prefabrication and assembling, its outfitting, safety equipment and safety systems, lifesaving and fire-fighting, fire protection and appliances; you will also provide support for drawings approval. In this role, you will be the main point of contact for all related matters with the Ship’s Construction Manager, the shipyard, suppliers and the technical office.
Your Impact
- Supervises the hull outfitting, safety equipment, lifesaving and fire fighting appliances (including fire insulation), providing support to drawing approval if needed.
- Supervises construction of the hull blocks and sections and their assembling, with awareness of the construction quality standards and IACS main guidelines.
- Supervises the installation and the delivery / acceptance of: insulation, piping (mainly water-mist and fire-fighting), main doors and main side-doors.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for all marine, safety, and structural matters, collaborating closely with representatives from the Marine Operations team.
- Ensures that all parts built under the supervision of the Marine Safety and Structures Specialist are inspected, verified and functionally tested to meet the requirements and the design parameters.
- Ensures that all the equipment, systems and outfitting are safe to operate, installed according to the manufacturers specification and with reasonable access for future maintenance and repair.
- Works with the Head of Shipbuilding and the Site Director for the preparation of documents and reports, mainly for the delivery process of the ships, and for the weekly technical summary.
- Highlights relevant aspects of the ship’s design that can be improved for future constructions.
- Attends sea-trials, dock operations and factory acceptance tests.
Your Journey so far
- Master Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering or significant experience in the field in a similar position, in the yard or from the shipowner.
- Significant experience running inspections in shipyards for activities of shipbuilding or refurbishment, with some experience in leading a team/resources.
- Ability to review new building specifications and drawings.
- Proficiency with the use of Microsoft Office (including Excel, MS Word, MS Project or equivalent and PowerPoint).
- Fluency in English, knowledge of Italian is a plus.
