Job Overview
BMC Software is seeking a z/OS Assembler Manager to oversee product R&D support and fix APARs for a Mainframe (z/OS) product. This role involves building and leading a team of approximately 10 engineers, managing high-impact issues, and ensuring product quality and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and lead a team of mainframe engineers for product support and APAR development.
- Develop diagnostic tools and processes to improve supportability.
- Collaborate with product teams to define requirements and prioritize tasks.
- Manage APAR cycles, ensuring timely delivery and quality.
- Handle hiring, delegating tasks, and guiding team members for success and growth.
- Promote a sense of urgency to meet project deadlines.
- Encourage ongoing learning and development among team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience on Mainframe z/OS.
- 3+ years in a people management role.
- Deep understanding and coding experience in z/Assembler.
- Proficiency in Mainframe z/OS environment including JCL, JES2(3), SMS, and z/OS internals.
- Ability to analyze dumps using IPCS.
- Knowledge of SMP/E.
- Ability to discuss technical issues and analyze problems with customers.
- Strong problem-solving skills and sense of urgency.
- Leadership skills to build and guide effective teams.
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn and adapt.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Java, C, and C++.
- Experience with Unix System Services and Language Environment.
- Experience building teams from scratch.
- Experience in enterprise product companies.
