BMC Software, Inc. is seeking an experienced z/OS Systems Programmer to join our Mainframe Infrastructure team in India. You will ensure stability, security, and high performance of IBM Z systems, collaborating across operations and development for modernization efforts.

The role emphasizes OS installation, sysplex management, automation, and production support, with industry-standard tools and scripting required to drive reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 5–10 years of hands-on z/OS systems programming experience.
• Deep SMP/E knowledge for install, patching, maintenance.
• Strong understanding of z/OS architecture, IPL, and USS.
• Proficiency with RMF and BMC AMI tools.
• Scripting in Python, REXX, and JCL.
• Familiarity with z/OSMF workflows.

BMC is looking for an experienced z/OS Systems Programmer with 5 to 10 years of hands‑on technical expertise to join our Mainframe Infrastructure team. The primary focus of this role is to ensure the stability, security, and high performance of our core IBM Z operating systems and subsystems. While this role relies heavily on traditional, deep systems programming capabilities, the ideal candidate will also have the opportunity to participate in and support our ongoing mainframe modernization Here is how, through this exciting role, YOU will contribute to BMC's and your own success:

• OS Installation & Maintenance: Lead the installation, configuration, customization, and migration of z/OS operating systems and related IBM software using SMP/E processing.
• System Customization: Manage system initialization (IPL parameters), Parmlib/Proclib configurations, and master catalog management.
• Sysplex Management: Maintain and support Parallel Sysplex environments, including Coupling Facility (CF) structures and Shared DASD configurations.
• Subsystem Support: Provide systems‑level administration and configuration for core components, including JES2, DFSMS, TSO/E, and ISPF.
• Automation & Scripting: Develop, debug, and maintain system automation scripts and utilities using Python, Ansible, REXX, CLIST, and JCL.
• Problem Determination: Perform root‑cause analysis on system failures.
• Production Support: Participate in an on‑call rotation to provide Tier‑3 technical support for critical production infrastructure issues.

To ensure you’re set up for success, you will bring the following skillset & experience:

• Experience: 5 to 10 years of solid, hands‑on experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer in an enterprise production environment.
• Software Management: Proven, deep knowledge of SMP/E for software installation, patching, and maintenance.
• Core Architecture: Comprehensive understanding of z/OS architecture, IPL sequences, and Unix System Services (USS).
• Tooling: Practical experience with system utilities and performance monitoring tools (e.g., BMC AMI tools, RMF, or equivalent).
• Scripting: Strong proficiency in writing and maintaining Python, REXX and JCL.
• Experience with z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF) workflows and software management deployment.
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation via Ansible for IBM Z or Python on z/OS.
• Knowledge of integrating mainframe environments into modern DevOps CI/CD pipelines
