General Summary
At Qualcomm, the Modem Systems team has played a key role in shaping technologies from CDMA and 3G to LTE, LTE‑Advanced, and 5G NR.Today, the team continues to lead innovation across 5G NR (Sub 6 and mmWave), NTN, IoT, URLLC, and early 6G research, taking ideas from concept to large‑scale commercial deployment.This role offers opportunities to work across modem architecture, PHY algorithm design, RF and baseband interaction, system simulations, and standardization‑driven system studies.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
- PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 1+ year of Systems Engineering or related work experience.
Experience Expectations (3‑7 Years)
- MTech with up to 5 years of relevant industry experience.
- PhD with up to 3 years of industry or applied research experience.
- Open to strong industry profiles and fresh PhD candidates with relevant research focus.
Areas of Work and Interest
- Modem and PHY system design for 5G NR and beyond.
- Physical layer algorithm development for wireless transceivers.
- RF and baseband interaction, including RF impairments and digital mitigation.
- System performance analysis, modeling, and tradeoff studies.
- Spectral and transmitter requirements such as CFR, ACLR, SEM, PAPR, and power control.
- Beamforming concepts and multi‑antenna systems.
- RF and baseband filtering concepts.
- Contribution to system architecture studies and design documentation.
- Collaboration with software, firmware, RF IC, and test teams to debug system‑level issues.
- Research oriented systems work, including standardization‑influenced studies.
Required Background
- Strong foundation in wireless communication and signal processing.
- Solid understanding of communication theory, signal processing, probability and random processes, detection and estimation theory.
- Exposure to or hands‑on experience with Matlab, C or C++ simulations.
- Candidates should have either taken relevant courses or applied these concepts in real systems or research and be ready to use them in physical layer solution development.
- Experience or strong interest in 5G NR, LTE, WLAN, or related wireless technologies.
