Job summary

Ojas Maxivision Eye Hospitals in Mumbai seeks an OT Staff Nurse to join the Operation Theatre team. The role focuses on safe perioperative nursing care for ophthalmic surgeries, patient prep, assisting surgeons, sterility maintenance, and post-operative care.

Qualifications include GNM / B.Sc. Nursing with valid registration; ophthalmic OT experience preferred, freshers with OT training considered. Fluency in Hindi/Marathi is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for ophthalmic surgeries as per protocols.
• Verify patient identity, procedure details, consent and pre-operative requirements.
• Assist ophthalmologists during cataract, LASIK/refractive, retina and other procedures.
• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, consumables and OT equipment.
• Ensure adherence to sterilization and infection-control protocols.
• Operate and monitor autoclave and sterilization processes.
• Assist in transferring and monitoring patients before and after surgery.
• Provide post-operative care and shift patients to recovery.
• Maintain OT registers, nursing documentation and checklists.
• Report equipment issues or stock shortages to the appropriate authority.
• Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal.
• Maintain OT cleanliness, safety and readiness.
• Follow NABH requirements where applicable.

Job Purpose

The OT Staff Nurse will be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality perioperative nursing care for ophthalmic surgery patients. The role includes patient preparation, assisting surgeons during procedures, maintaining OT sterility, infection-control practices, equipment readiness and post-operative patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for ophthalmic surgeries as per prescribed clinical and
  surgical protocols.
• Verify patient identity, procedure details, consent and pre-operative
  requirements.
• Assist ophthalmologists and surgeons during cataract, LASIK/refractive,
  retina and other ophthalmic procedures.
• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, consumables and OT
  equipment.
• Ensure strict adherence to sterilization, aseptic and infection-control
  protocols.
• Operate and monitor autoclave and sterilization processes as assigned.
• Assist in transferring and monitoring patients before and after surgery.
• Provide post-operative care and safely shift patients to the recovery area.
• Monitor smooth patient flow within the OT and coordinate with doctors,
  optometrists and other clinical staff.
• Maintain OT registers, nursing documentation, surgical records and
  checklists accurately.
• Report equipment malfunction, stock shortages or any clinical concerns to
  the concerned authority.
• Ensure proper biomedical waste segregation and disposal as per hospital
  policy.
• Participate in maintaining OT cleanliness, safety and readiness at all times.
• Follow hospital SOPs, quality standards, patient safety protocols and NABH
  requirements, wherever applicable.

Qualification

• GNM / B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing.
• Valid nursing registration preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 13 years of experience as an OT Staff Nurse.
• Experience in an eye hospital or ophthalmic operation theatre will be
  preferred.
• Freshers with relevant OT training may also be considered based on
  organizational requirements.

• Knowledge of OT procedures, sterilization and infection-control practices.
• Ability to assist in ophthalmic surgeries.
• Knowledge of surgical instruments and OT equipment.
• Good patient-handling and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team.
• Attention to detail and strong commitment to patient safety.
• Fluency in Hindi and Marathi; basic English communication preferred.
