Job summary

SGS India, a world-leading TIC company, seeks a Chemist on contract payroll at Thane. You will perform sample testing as per ASTM/IS/ISO and customer methods, maintain data integrity, and ensure timely delivery of results.

Responsibilities include instrument operation (ICP-OES, GC, HPLC, FTIR), calibration, documentation to ISO 17025, and inventory/quality control of chemicals and reagents. 1+ year experience and B.Sc. Chemistry required.

  • B.Sc. Chemistry with 1+ year experience in laboratory testing.
  • Experience in testing petroleum products, lubricants, petrochemicals.
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 and documentation requirements.

Position: Chemist (On Contract SGS Payroll)

Qualification: B.Sc. Chemistry

Working Days: 6 days

Working Shift: 8.5 Hrs.

Experience: 1+ Years

Location: Thane

Roles:
1. Sample Testing and Analysis
  • Perform testing of samples as per ASTM, IS, IP, ISO, and customer-specific methods.
  • Complete assigned work accurately and within specified turnaround times.
  • Ensure compliance with approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct routine and specialized testing of petroleum products, lubricants, transformer oils, petrochemicals, and other samples as applicable.
2. Instrument Operation
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment efficiently.
  • Perform routine instrument checks before analysis.
  • Handle sophisticated instruments such as:
  • ICP-OES
  • Gas Chromatography (GC)
  • HPLC
  • FTIR
  • Particle Counter
  • Flash Point Tester
  • Viscometer
  • Other analytical instruments as applicable
3. Calibration and Maintenance
  • Carry out internal calibration and performance verification of laboratory instruments as per scheduled frequency.
  • Maintain calibration and maintenance records.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and assist in troubleshooting activities.
  • Coordinate with Technical Executives and service engineers for repairs and preventive maintenance.
4. Documentation and Quality Control
  • Maintain laboratory workbooks, test records, logbooks, and worksheets.
  • Record test results accurately and ensure data integrity.
  • Participate in quality control activities, including analysis of standards, blanks, and proficiency testing samples.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with ISO 17025 and laboratory quality requirements.
5. Chemical and Inventory Management
  • Monitor usage of chemicals, standards, glassware, and consumables.
  • Ensure proper storage and labeling of chemicals and reagents.
  • Inform supervisors regarding low stock levels and replenishment requirements.
  • Maintain inventory records as assigned.
6. Data Review and Reporting
  • Verify analytical results before submission for review.
  • Highlight abnormal or out-of-specification results to the Technical Executive.
  • Assist in preparation of test reports and technical documentation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of customer results and laboratory information.
7. Laboratory Housekeeping
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory work areas.
  • Follow 5S practices and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Ensure all laboratory materials are stored in designated locations.
