We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Vice President, Equities Chief Operating Officer.

In this role, you will:

  • The role holder will be responsible for supporting the Equity Derivatives COO Office with the asset class strategic initiatives, controls, regulatory change, MI reporting, change programmes, issues and other important business impacts which are critical to both understand and to be positioned to provide support for where necessary.
  • Strong understanding of Derivative products: vanilla options, exotics, variance/correlation products, swaps, convertibles, autocallables, etc. with full trade life cycle.
  • Ensuring the business can evidence compliance with applicable rules, documentation standards, control testing and governance expectations;Strong Stakeholder Management.Translating front-office activity into clear operating models, roles, handoffs, approvals, limits, supervision and escalation frameworks.
  • Supporting new products, market changes or strategic initiatives by coordinating Front Office, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Ops and Technology in a controlled way; Responsible for ensuring the efficient running of the relevant business front-to-back activities within role remit.
  • Delivering first class service and outcomes to our client base, via pro‑active handling of organization and commercial demands;Defining future business capabilities and strategy with the business head as appropriate; Owning efficient allocation of business resources and effectively managing the cost/FTE within role remit; In partnership with embedded control officers, managing the risk and control environment via a robust governance, ensuring all risks are understood, reported and managed within risk appetite.
  • Exhibit Active participation in the relevant people agenda and, where applicable, take measures for creating a strong team with clear development for all staff and succession plans for critical roles; Extending strategic support to business management on new business development, establishing & streamlining processes & collaborating with the Global COOs on strategic projects; Reviewing and Streamlined Management Office information gathering, production and reporting
  • Strong alignment and collaboration between all functions that make up the F2B business flow; Representing the business in regional and global governance forums; Identifies opportunities to implement scalable solutions that improve revenue, efficiency and or client experience; Responsible for ensuring Clear monitoring and reporting of costs. Costs and headcount managed within budget scope for role.
  • Review and Coordination of Equity Derivatives owned Governance forums including the various Committee – agenda, action points, information gathering for agenda topics, production of information packs; Derive change through effective project planning and execution on regulatory driven projects and initiatives; Deriving various conversation related to update on instruction and procedural manuals for the business.
  • Collaboration on various risk review on vendor with control teams; Demonstrates new ways of thinking to improve performance; Effective communication networks used to maintain positive relationships and gather momentum on items as necessary; Lead the continuing development, implementation and improvement of the processes, structures, capabilities, capacity and infrastructure needed to deliver Management Office Business Management responsibilities.
  • Establish and maintain a robust and efficient control environment across the Markets Management Office. together with early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise

To be successful you will:

  • Markets and Securities Services business/product knowledge; Strong understanding of F2B flow of the derivative products; Strong understanding of business risks, client base and geopolitical environment
  • Organized with a systematic approach to programme execution, experience of (major) business transformation; Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in a clear language; Strong ability to quickly understand business requirements and concerns and deliver a quality result to them.
  • Ability to identify, manage, and mitigate risk effectively;Technical and AI proficiency: Strong understanding of AI-powered business tools, automation platforms, and software development workflows. Experience working with tools such as ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Copilot, Jira, Confluence, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Excel,
  • Familiarity with APIs, low-code/no-code platforms is preferred; Proven track record of implementing change programmes of scale/size required for role; Build good understanding of HSBC structures, processes, objectives and risk environment
  • Proven ability in managing and coordinating globally dispersed teams where relevant; Strong problem-solving capability, able to drive team with multi-task well under pressure and times of ambiguity; Sees beyond the ‘day to day’ work, taking a broad strategic view of the business supported
  • Required to ensure that the service levels are maintained at its optimum level; Attention to detail and ability to ensure that information is captured in a timely manner; The ability to quickly understand business requirements and concerns and deliver a quality result to them
  • Strong interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to succeed within a matrix management structure and build and maintain global team relationships; Able to work independently, proactively and under pressure against multiple deadlines
  • Evidence of delivery in a similar role within a global organization would be an added advantage; Experience in implementing automation and developing technology tools that effectively distribute to stakeholders globally; Good presentation skills; Feedback from the Global Management team.
