Job summary

Accel It Services is seeking an L2 Backup Support Engineer to troubleshoot, optimize Veritas NetBackup environments, handle escalations from L1, and ensure SLA compliance.

You will design disaster recovery strategies, automate common tasks with Python/PowerShell/Bash, and work with Linux/Windows servers, storage, and cloud integrations.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills are required to drive improvements and knowledge transfer across the team.

Qualifications

• Expertise in Veritas NetBackup (v10.x and above), including Appliances and OpsCenter.
• Strong understanding of backup/recovery concepts, storage management, and NDMP.
• Proficiency in Python, PowerShell, or Bash for automation tasks.
• Experience with Linux/Unix, Windows Server, and SQL/Oracle backup integrations.
• Familiarity with RTO/RPO objectives and replication strategies.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Implementation and configuration of NetBackup on Flex Appliances and mastering server configurations.
• Analyze logs and diagnose root causes for recurring issues.
• Configure and optimize backup policies, schedules, and storage units.
• Manage NetBackup Flex Appliances, MSDP pools, tape libraries, and cloud storage integrations.
• Design and implement disaster recovery strategies, including replication and vaulting.
• Ensure compliance with data protection policies and retention standards.
• Develop scripts for automation and reporting.
• Provide L1 escalation support and knowledge transfer.
• Generate backup success/failure reports and maintain SOPs.
• Report on OpsCenter, Alta View and IT Analytics.

Summary

The L2 Backup Support Engineer is responsible for advanced troubleshooting, operational support, and optimization of Veritas NetBackup environments. This role involves handling escalations from L1 teams, ensuring SLA compliance, and implementing best practices for backup and recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Implementation of Flex Appliances 5360 & 5260
• Master server & Media server configuration on Flex Appliances
• Analyze logs (bptm, bpbrm, bpdbm) and diagnose root causes for recurring problems.
• Configure and optimize backup policies, schedules, and storage units.
• Configure & Manage NetBackup Flex Appliances, MSDP pools, tape libraries, and cloud storage integrations.
• Design and implement disaster recovery strategies, including replication and vaulting.
• Ensure compliance with data protection policies and retention standards.
• Develop scripts (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and reporting.
• Implement performance tuning and capacity planning for backup systems.
• Act as the focal point for L1 escalations and provide knowledge transfer.
• Generate backup success/failure reports and maintain SOPs.
• Reporting on OpsCenter, Alta View and IT Analytics
