Reports to: General Manager
About the Role
We are looking for a seasoned accounting leader to own the operational performance of our client-facing accounting teams. This is a hands-on management role you will be responsible for the day-to-day output, quality, and client satisfaction across our bookkeeping and accounting engagements, including dedicated teams serving our CPA firm clients.
You will manage the full team hierarchy from team leads and seniors down to junior staff. Your job is to build structure, accountability, and consistency at every level, actively develop your juniors, and report on individual and team growth to the GM on an ongoing basis.
What You'll Own
Team Leadership & Performance
- Directly manage team leads, senior accountants, and junior staff across all teams
- Hold team leads accountable to deadlines, quality standards, and client deliverables and hold juniors accountable to the same through them
- Actively develop junior staff: identify skill gaps, assign growth-oriented work, provide feedback, and track progress over time
- Establish and enforce clear workflows, check-ins, and escalation paths across all levels
- Run regular 1:1s and team reviews; build a culture of ownership and follow-through
- Report to the GM on individual and team growth — who is improving, who is stalling, and what actions are being taken
Client Management
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client issues, complaints, and key updates — you own the client relationship from an operational standpoint
- Proactively communicate with clients; don't wait for them to chase you
- Manage relationships with our CPA firm clients, including one large dedicated engagement and several smaller ones — some with shared team resources
- Set and manage client expectations around timelines, deliverables, and scope
Operational Oversight
- Ensure consistent, on-time delivery across all client engagements
- Oversee workload distribution and capacity planning across teams, including shared resources between CPA client teams and core Elevated Ledger work
- Spot bottlenecks before they become problems; build repeatable systems that reduce dependence on any one person
- Report up to the GM on team health, client status, and operational issues — flag problems early, don't bury them
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years in accounting/bookkeeping, with at least 5+ years in a management or team lead role
- Experience managing client relationships directly — you're comfortable being the person clients call when something goes wrong
- Proven ability to manage and develop a team, not just do the work yourself
- Familiarity with CPA firm workflows or working alongside CPA clients is a strong plus
- Detail-oriented and organized — you track open items, follow through, and don't let things fall through the cracks
- Clear communicator — with clients, with your team, and with leadership
- Proficient in QuickBooks Online (QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBD); experience with Dext for document management
- Familiarity with Financial Cents or similar practice management software is a strong plus
- Experience with CCH Axcess or other tax software is a plus
What This Role Is Not
This is not a technical accounting role where you put your head down and do the books. You will manage people who do that work. Your job is to make sure the team operates well, clients are happy, and problems get resolved — not to be the last line of defense on every journal entry.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary commensurate with experience
- Direct access to senior leadership — decisions get made quickly here
- A business that is growing; opportunity to scale the role as the company scales
- Stable, professional environment with real operational infrastructure
