Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services in Chennai is seeking an experienced Linux Administrator to join our operations team. The role focuses on managing Linux environments, performing OS patching, tuning performance and handling outages.

You will lead L1/L2 support, coordinate with vendors, implement security measures, and drive root-cause analyses for complex infrastructure issues. Candidates should have 8–13 years of hands-on experience with Linux, LVM, NFS, SAN, virtualization, and strong troubleshooting

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands-on Linux administration experience.
• Strong experience with Linux file systems, patch management and LVM.
• Experience in OS tuning, kernel parameters, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Linux HA clusters and virtualization platforms.
• Knowledge of network services (NIS, DNS, FTP, NTP) and monitoring/logging tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support L1/L2 Linux administration teams.

• Install, configure and troubleshoot servers; optimize performance.

• Leading and supporting the L1 and L2 teams in Linux system administration.
• Ability to manage Linux environment, Strong experience on file system management, package management, patch management, LVM management, NFS, troubleshooting.
• Server installation, Administration, and performance optimization with Linux flavors.
• Troubleshoot problems with deployed servers or perform new deployments from scratch.
• Experience in Linux HA clusters in build and configurations
• Perform OS patch management, application upgrades and server migrations for Linux based systems.
• Knowledge of kernel parameters and their configuration
• Administering and troubleshooting disks using volume management
• Experience in network and SAN configuration
• Good understanding of network protocols like NIS, FTP, DNS, and NTP
• Knowledge & experience in monitoring, logging and cost management tools
• Problem Solving: Ability to analyze and resolve complex infrastructure resource and application deployment issues.
• Perform back-up/recovery functions for Linux server environments.
• Provide technical assistance to team and support for applications, hardware, softwareproblems.
• Install and maintain agents on servers for centralized monitoring and management.
• Support virtualization Linux Servers hosted on VMWare, Xen, KVM or another similar hypervisor platform.
• Coordination with multiple stakeholders / Third party Vendors for break-fix.
• Perform all security/compliance functions for Linux server environments.
• Must be able to lead the critical outage calls.
• Performing root cause analysis of problems. Prepare a plan of action, implement changes, document all work completed and train support staff.
• Participate in weekly/ monthly/ customer meetings and provide activities reports.
• Identify and recommend improvements to existing processes and procedures.
• Installation and configuration of Linux Packages/services/Software.
• Working and Administration of LVM, i.e., volume group, physical volume, logical volume, file system.
