Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Bengaluru is expanding its Strategic Planning practice and seeking motivated urban planners. You will lead spatial planning analyses, develop GIS-based concepts, and produce technical reports and drawings from baseline to implementation.

The role includes coordination with senior staff, meeting time/cost targets, and occasional travel to global project sites. You should hold a Master’s in Urban Planning or Urban Design and a Bachelor’s in Architecture, with 2–4 years’ experience

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Urban Planning/Urban Design is mandatory.
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture required.
• 2–4 years of professional experience in Spatial/Regional/M master planning.
• Strong GIS, analytical, and data visualization skills.
• Experience with ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Good English written and verbal communication.

Job description

The Strategic Planning practice in AtkinsRéalis India is currently expanding to contribute to different sectors including Property, Infrastructure & Transportation, across regions around the world. We are keen to take on board highly motivated and capable urban planners to shape a well-integrated team delivering projects across the globe.

Your role

• Take ownership and deliver Urban Planning projects and work packages under the supervision of Senior Urban Planners / Practice Leads.
• Develop Spatial Planning and Regional Planning analysis and concepts using ArcGIS, 3D, and digital mediums.
• Be responsible for the production of drawings, graphics, models, and reports through Baseline Assessment to Implementation stages.
• Draft technical reports, presentations, and contractual documents of acceptable technical and presentation quality with minimum guidance.
• Work to a program for the project and proactively advise senior team members of any issues that affect efficient project completion.
• Be responsible for spatial and urban analytics by analyzing demographic, socio-economic, land use, and spatial datasets. Develop GIS, FME (Feature Manipulation Engine preferred), and Excel-based analyses.
• Be responsible for the collection, validation, integration, and management of datasets from multiple sources.
• Develop, document, and maintain efficient, reproducible analytical workflows and spatial databases.
• Develop scripts and tools to automate data processing and analysis workflows for automation and digital innovation.
• Set out and agree design standards and parameters with senior team members.
• Be willing to undertake interdisciplinary technical coordination.
• Be responsible for the completion of specifically assigned tasks within time and cost constraints.
• Use business-related software such as ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Adobe Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), Advanced Excel, etc., independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrate competency in the above-mentioned software, good graphical skills, clear communication skills, quick and methodical decision-making, and design-related tasks.
• Successfully identify and follow through on leads or suggestions associated with additional work prospects on projects.
• Travel, when required, to AtkinsRéalis offices and project sites globally and interface with teams based there.
• Ensure the team is aware of design standards, codes, and compliance requirements within the Middle East region and that these are adhered to in designs.

About you

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Urbanism, or Urban Design from a nationally or internationally reputed university is mandatory.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture is required.
• 2 to 4 years of professional experience in Spatial Planning, Regional Planning, or Master Planning projects within a reputed firm.
• Middle East experience will be an added advantage.
• Strong experience delivering Spatial Planning, Regional Planning, and Urban Planning projects.
• Use GIS, analytical, and AI-based tools to support assessments and visual storytelling.
• Conduct and review research, data collection, and spatial analysis to support development strategies.
• Working knowledge of standard regulations and best practice principles, with strong problem-solving skills.
• International experience in the UK, Middle East, or APAC regions will be considered an added advantage.
• Must be conversant with evolving professional standards, especially regarding collaborative and multidisciplinary design.
• Proficiency in QGIS, ArcGIS Pro, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, AutoCAD, MS Office, Advanced Excel, SketchUp, and Google Earth Pro.
• Experience with AI-based or data visualization tools.
• Preference for candidates with FME and Python knowledge.
• Working knowledge of and interest in digital innovation, AI software, and prototyping competencies will be an added advantage.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a larger multidisciplinary team.
• Logical and organized approach to project delivery, with the ability to follow instructions and guidance from senior team members.
• Collaborative team player with a genuine interest in cities and urban development.
• Good understanding of urban systems, built form, and spatial data.
• Ability to identify and communicate project or team concerns to the immediate Line Manager.
• Ability to discuss career goals and aspirations.
• Willingness to share information and knowledge with team members.
• Commitment to raising design standards, improving skills, keeping up with the latest technical and digital developments, and staying current with the field of urbanism.
• Ability to work across all three interrelated disciplines of Planning and Urban Design.
