Job summary

Cable Designer

• Prepare designs and drawings that comply with relevant codes of practice, standards, regulatory authorities, and client requirements; coordinate with and mentor lower‑level drafting personnel.
• Delegate and oversee workload to drafting staff assigned to projects.
• Perform documented quality reviews of drawing packages in accordance with the quality management system.
• Provide specialist knowledge and stay current with developments in relevant fields.
• Innovate and identify optimal methods for design tasks.
• Travel as required to satisfy project demands.
• Coordinate with project engineering and project management teams to ensure timely, quality deliverables.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews of pulling calculations, alignments, layers, design standards, and construction design packages.
• Promote company interests through professional contacts, representation in groups, and publication opportunities.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Electrical/Civil with 3–4 years of experience or ITI in Electrical/Civil with 6–8 years of experience.
• Underground experience a plus; transmission or distribution experience preferred.
• Proven verbal and written communication and IT (office packages) skills.
• Track record of solving complex problems within deadlines.
• Experience leading a team of engineers and designers.
• Managing multiple projects, deadlines, and deliverables concurrently.
• Communicating with multiple teams and stakeholders.
• Priority management and schedule planning.
• Knowledge of underground powerlines construction methods a plus.
• Knowledge of easements, right‑of‑way, and permitting considerations and impacts.
• Proficiency in creating plan & profile drawings using Civil‑3D.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work.
• Knowledge of utility telecommunications, distributed energy resource integration, and advanced distribution technologies a plus.
• Strong analytical capability.
• Flexibility to work in different roles for different clients locally and worldwide.
• Flexibility to travel is a considerable advantage.
• Capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
