Job summary

Uplevyl is seeking a senior designer to own the website and AI-native interfaces end-to-end. You will craft the brand visuals, interaction patterns, and design system while building live products with real users. The role demands a fast, high-accuracy maker who ships responsive interfaces across desktop and mobile.

You will work from India, collaborating with a small, high-performance team. Framer experience is valuable as you transition code into the growing site, delivering live experiences

Responsibilities

• Own the design of the website end-to-end including structure, layout, typography, and copy.
• Design AI-native interfaces for UpGenie, WeHub, and UpSocial focusing on clear, useful interactions.
• Create interactive visualizations, scroll experiences, panels, and animations that feel alive.
• Own the design system and component library, ensuring responsive AI and chat interfaces.
• Develop brand assets and investor/partner materials that stay recognizably Uplevyl.
• Maintain high visual and interaction quality, catching niggles before release.
• Set and follow a cadence for design delivery (design, test, iterate, ship).

We have also made a deliberate choice about how we build: a small team of exceptional people, paid well above market, each doing work that would normally take several. Our website is our front door. Almost everyone who meets our founder goes there next. What those visitors find cannot merely be tidy. It has to look like it was made by someone with taste, and it has to carry a story no one else is telling.

You own that, and more than that. You are the design function at Uplevyl: the website, the interfaces inside UpGenie, WeHub, and UpSocial, the brand itself, and the investor and partnership material that goes into rooms we are not in.

A major part of this role is designing AI-native interfaces. You will work on chat experiences and AI agent interfaces where the conversation itself is the product: message hierarchy, streaming responses, citations, sources, suggested prompts, attachments, tool states, feedback, loading and error states, and responsive behavior across desktop and mobile. You should understand how to make an AI interface feel clear, useful, and responsive rather than simply placing a chat box on a page.

What makes this role unusual is that you build what you design. We are not looking for someone who produces a file and hands it to engineering. You work in Framer today, and you will move into the codebase as the site grows. The interactive pieces are yours end to end: a chart a reader clicks into, a hero that answers a cursor, a section that assembles as you scroll, or a responsive AI chat experience that works properly across screens. Being able to build something like that quickly, and build it well, is not a bonus skill in this role. It is the job.

It helps to know what we are trying to make. Uplevyl’s work is recovering knowledge about women that was never collected, or was collected and then lost. Our site is meant to be the first small instance of that idea: more than twenty works by historical women artists woven through it and properly attributed. The whole thing should read like a good technology magazine – feminine without being decorative, art and engineering in the same frame, closer to something etched in glass than printed on paper.

What you’ll own

• The website, end-to-end. Structure, layout, typography, motion, and copy when the copy is the thing that is wrong. Publish it, test it on desktop and mobile, and test it in Safari.
• AI product and chat experiences. Design UpGenie and other AI experiences: conversation layouts, message states, streaming responses, citations, sources, suggested prompts, attachments, tool interactions, feedback, loading, empty and error states, and responsive behavior.
• Interactive work that feels alive. Build interactive visualizations, scroll experiences, panels, animations, and other experiences that feel alive rather than static.
• Product interfaces and the system underneath them. UpGenie, WeHub, and UpSocial are live products with real users and recurring design bugs. Own the design system and component library, including patterns required for responsive AI and chat interfaces.
• The brand and the assets that carry it. Logo, type, palette, investor decks, capability statements, brochures, and campaign creative. Keep them recognizably Uplevyl.
• The quality bar itself. Notice the four-pixel gap, the broken grid, the clipped descender, the stuttering animation, or the chat response that breaks on mobile. Nothing leaves you that a founder has to catch.
• A cadence the team can rely on. Changes compiled Monday, pushed Wednesday, tested Thursday, live Friday.

Who we’re looking for

We are not looking for a UI/UX designer, and we are not looking for a front-end developer who executes a mock. We want the rarer person who is honestly both: understands art, engineering, product interfaces, and would be bored doing only one of them. We hire across levels. The portfolio decides, not the years.

• You build high-end interactive and animated work, fast. Show us an interactive visualization, generative or motion piece, scroll experience, or AI product interface and walk us through how you built it.
• You understand AI interfaces. You have designed or built chat-based products, AI agents, copilots, assistants, or similar experiences. You understand streaming, long responses, citations, tool calls, follow-up actions, and responsive behavior.
• An eye that is almost uncomfortable. You notice the four-pixel gap, the card that breaks the grid, the animation that stutters, and the interface that breaks on mobile.
• You ship code. Framer now; React, CSS, and whatever the motion asks for — GSAP, Three.js, WebGL, SVG — as the site moves into the repository. You are at home in a codebase and browser dev tools.
• You read the content, not just the layout. You understand what a page is trying to say and design something that says it better.
• Taste with an argument behind it. You can hold “feminine” and “serious technology” in one design without collapsing into either.
• High agency. There is no design team below you and no brief waiting on your desk. You take a surface, own it, finish it, and tell us it is done.
• Outcomes over hours. We care about what shipped and how good it was.

Even better if

• You came to design sideways — through finance, engineering, marketing, growth, or something else entirely.
• You have a real practice in generative art, WebGL or Three.js, motion design, or data visualization.
• You have designed or built AI chat interfaces, AI agents, copilots, conversational products, or other AI-native interfaces.
• You have built and maintained a design system or component library in production.
• You have worked in Framer, Webflow, Replit, Lovable, or similar, and you know where each one stops.
• You have built a brand from nothing: identity, logo, type system, the lot.
• You have founder, startup operator, or early-employee experience.
