Job Description
CDM Smith is looking for an experienced Roadway Design Engineer well‑versed with Bentley OpenRoads and Autodesk Civil 3D tools, who will act as a Task Manager for projects. The Engineer will plan and design deliverables against Middle East and US DOT standards for each project stage and coordinate with other disciplines to ensure a well‑coordinated design. The role is based in Bangalore’s Transportation team, producing concept and detailed roadway construction drawings and other infrastructure‑related designs for various projects. The Engineer receives guidance from the Senior Project Engineer/Manager and typically performs work independently or as part of a team. Interaction with onshore PMs/Engineers is expected, with a focus on meeting project requirements on schedule and budget.
Key Competencies / Skills
- Task manager of Roadway Design Projects.
- Self‑sufficient use of design software such as OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk Civil 3D, and ProjectWise.
- Hands‑on experience using AutoCAD/MicroStation for preparing design drawings in internationally recognized standard formats.
- Familiarity with Infraworks, Concept Station, or other 3‑D visualization software.
- Knowledge of Navisworks/GuideSign is an added advantage.
- Strong command of BIM360, digital, and data analytics software as applicable.
- Experience in production of plans, profiles, corridor modeling, detailed cross‑sections, site grading, and earthwork quantities using design software.
- Knowledge of ADA ramp design and Complete Street designs.
- Conscious of preparation of Signage, Markings, and Traffic Control Plans.
- Basic knowledge of Pavement Design and Cost Estimation.
- Basic knowledge of Road Safety Provisions and Design.
- Programming skills are desirable.
- Capability to review and proof‑check road design related drawings.
- Experience in preparation of technical reports, progress reports, and presentations.
- Adoption of QA/QC procedures as per company policy to ensure coordinated designs both internally and across other disciplines.
Skills & Abilities
- Solid knowledge of computer‑assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
- Solid knowledge of engineering principles of design.
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.).
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Transportation Engineering, Roadway Technology, or Highway Engineering.
- Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in the design and documentation of roadway projects.
- Experience in Middle East projects is a must (preferably Dubai).
- Knowledge of International Roadway Design Guides (AASHTO, DMRB, RTA, QHDM, MUTCD and other similar standards).
- Good organizational skills.
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
- Use of problem‑solving techniques and systems analysis.
- Understanding of engineering standards, codes of practice, and local authorities' guidelines.
