Job summary

Aeva Inc. in Bangalore is seeking a Thermal Engineer to analyze thermal performance of our products and optimize designs for better cooling in autonomous sensing modules.

You will develop conduction, convection, and forced-air cooling models, and design cooling solutions such as heatsinks, fans, vapour chambers, and TIMs. A Mechanical Engineering degree and 5+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of thermal analysis experience on silicon packages, PCBs, and fans.
  • Proficient in CFD modeling with Siemens FloEFD (transient and steady-state).
  • Skilled at optimizing CFD models to reduce run time via meshing strategies and boundary conditions.
  • Experience designing thermal management solutions including heat sinks, TIMs, and vapor chambers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop thermal models of conduction, natural convection, and forced air cooling.
  • Provide design feedback with plots and screenshots of thermal behavior and airflow; make improvement recommendations.
  • Design convective and conductive thermal solutions including fans, heatsinks, TIMs, and TECs.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a Thermal Analysis Engineer to analyze thermal performance of our products and help optimize the design to improve thermal performance.

What you'll do:
  • Developing and running thermal models of conduction, natural convection, and forced air cooled systems.
  • Providing design feedback via plots and screenshots of thermal behavior and air flow, along with recommendations for how to improve performance.
  • Designing convective thermal solutions including fans, heatsinks, and vapor chambers, along with conductive thermal solutions including TIMs and TECs.
What you have:
  • 5+ years of experience with thermal analysis and modeling of complex systems including silicon packages, PCBs, and fans.
  • Proficiency modeling CFD in Siemens FloEFD including transient and steady state analysis.
  • Understanding of CFD model optimization for reducing run time (meshing strategy, feature resolution, understanding how different components affect the thermal stack, etc).
  • Experience debugging complex models with multiple boundary conditions including solar loading, pressure inlets/outlets, and fixed temperature cabinet walls.
  • Experience in designing, speccing, and implementing passive and active thermal management solutions.
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer principles, fluid dynamics and thermodynamics.
  • Experience in designing advanced thermal management solutions such as heat pipes, 2D vapour chamber, 3D Vapour chamber, etc.
  • Good experience in selection and application of right thermal interface material ( gap filler pad, gels, grease, paste, phase change materials, epoxy etc.)
Nice to have
  • Experience with Multiphysics analysis techniques such as thermal expansion in structural simulation, outputting model results into optical analysis (STOP), etc.
  • Experience designing thermal solutions for automotive components.
  • Deep understanding of the thermomechanical properties and failure modes of glass, laminated composite structures, ceramics, polymers, metals, and adhesives.
  • Solidworks modeling experience
