Job summary

GKR HI-TECH HEAVY ENGINEERING in Chennai seeks a seasoned business development leader to drive shipbuilding and marine fabrication initiatives, building networks with shipyards, marine OEMs, offshore contractors, and port authorities.

You will translate requirements into manufacturable solutions, lead technical-commercial proposals and tenders, and coordinate with production, QA/QC, welding and materials teams, with periodic travel to Coimbatore.

Qualifications

• 20+ years in shipbuilding, marine engineering or offshore fabrication.
• Strong hull fabrication, marine structures, and CNC machining experience.
• Experience handling RFQs, tenders, and cost estimations.
• Knowledge of classification society rules and marine compliance.
• Excellent English and Tamil communication; strong network in Chennai shipyards.

Responsibilities

• Lead business development for shipbuilding, marine components, offshore structures, and heavy fabrication.
• Identify and onboard clients such as shipyards, marine OEMs, offshore engineering firms, and port authorities.
• Translate marine engineering requirements into manufacturable solutions using CNC machining and fabrication capabilities.
• Prepare and review technical-commercial proposals, RFQs, tenders, and cost estimations.
• Advise on marine standards, classification society requirements (IRS, ABS, DNV, Lloyds).
• Coordinate with internal teams for production planning, QA/QC, welding standards, and material selection.
• Guide development of new marine engineering product lines (hull components, deck machinery parts, fabricated structures, precision machined marine parts).
• Provide strategic insights on market trends, pricing benchmarks, and competitive positioning.
• Maintain strong relationships with Chennai shipbuilding ecosystem (Kattupalli, Ennore, Chennai Port, offshore contractors).

Candidate Profile

• 20+ years experience in shipbuilding, marine engineering, offshore fabrication, or maritime equipment manufacturing.
• Strong background in hull fabrication, marine structures, CNC machining for marine parts, welding standards, and QA/QC.
• Proven technocommercial experience handling RFQs, tenders, cost estimation, and client negotiations.
• Deep understanding of classification society rules and marine compliance.
• Strong network across Chennai shipyards, marine OEMs, EPC contractors, and portrelated industries.
• Excellent communication skills (English + Tamil).
• Ability to work independently as a parttime or full-time consultant with periodic travel to Coimbatore.

Preferred Background

• Senior roles in shipyards (L&T Shipbuilding, Kattupalli, Bharati Shipyard, ABG Shipyard, etc.).
• Marine fabrication companies or offshore engineering contractors.
• Experience supplying machined or fabricated components to maritime clients.
• Exposure to global marine procurement and export documentation.
