Job summary

IFF is a global leader in flavors, fragrances, food ingredients and health & biosciences, based in Mumbai. The Laboratory Assistant will support perfumers and ensure smooth day-to-day laboratory operations.

Your responsibilities include accurately weighing formulas, coordinating with requestors, ordering materials via SAP, maintaining records, and supporting fragrance evaluations while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or related field.
  • 1–3 years of lab experience in fragrance, flavor, chemical, FMCG, or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise systems for inventory and data entry.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in weighing, compounding, and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting timelines.
  • Good communication and coordination with perfumers and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety, quality standards and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately weighing fragrance formulas and performing compounding within timelines.
  • Prioritizing requests and coordinating with requestors on expected completion dates.
  • Ordering raw materials, packaging supplies, and urgent lab needs through SAP.
  • Maintaining raw material collections with proper labeling and stock checks.
  • Recording flashpoint information and supporting SAP-related lab activities.
  • Creating application tasks in SAP and preparing fragrance applications per perfumer instructions.
  • Supporting perfumers with material retrieval, fragrance prep, and dilution for evaluations.
  • Performing raw material approvals by assessing color, state, and odor against standards.
  • Preparing smelling strips and dilution samples for evaluation and approval.
  • Maintaining records, formula data, trial oil collections, and weekly compounding reports.
  • Ensuring lab cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and adherence to EHS guidelines.

Where You'll Make a Difference

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting perfumers and ensuring smooth day-to-day laboratory operations. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Accurately weighing fragrance formulas and completing compounding activities within agreed timelines.
  • Prioritizing compounding requests and coordinating with requestors on expected completion dates.
  • Ordering raw materials, packaging supplies, and urgent laboratory requirements through SAP.
  • Maintaining raw material collections, ensuring proper labeling, stock availability, and timely replacement of expiring materials.
  • Recording flashpoint information and supporting SAP-related laboratory activities.
  • Creating application tasks in SAP and preparing finished fragrance applications according to perfumer instructions.
  • Supporting perfumers with raw material retrieval, fragrance preparation, and dilution creation for evaluations and training.
  • Performing raw material approvals by assessing color, physical state, and odor consistency against existing standards.
  • Preparing smelling strips and dilution samples for fragrance evaluation and approval.
  • Maintaining accurate records, formula data, trial oil collections, and weekly compounding reports.
  • Ensuring laboratory cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and adherence to EHS and safety guidelines.
What Makes You the Right Fit
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a laboratory, fragrance, flavor, chemical, FMCG, or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise systems for inventory, procurement, and data entry activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in weighing, compounding, and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting timelines.
  • Good communication and coordination skills for working with perfumers and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety, quality standards, and compliance requirements.

  • Experience working in a fragrance, flavor, cosmetics, or specialty chemicals laboratory.

  • Hands-on experience with SAP transactions related to procurement, stock management, and laboratory operations.
  • Strong analytical mindset with excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience supporting product development, applications, or sensory evaluation activities.
