Job summary

IFF in Mumbai is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support perfumers and run day-to-day lab operations. You will weigh fragrance formulas, manage compounding, and coordinate with requestors to meet timelines.

You'll order raw materials via SAP, maintain stock, record safety data, and prepare fragrance applications for evaluation. Strong attention to detail and teamwork are essential to ensure quality and compliance.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of laboratory, fragrance, flavor, chemical, FMCG, or manufacturing experience.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other enterprise systems for inventory, procurement and data entry.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in weighing, compounding and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting timelines.
  • Good communication and coordination skills for working with perfumers and cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety, quality standards, and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately weighing fragrance formulas and completing compounding activities within agreed timelines.
  • Prioritizing compounding requests and coordinating with requestors on expected completion dates.
  • Ordering raw materials, packaging supplies, and urgent laboratory requirements through SAP.
  • Maintaining raw material collections, ensuring proper labeling, stock availability, and timely replacement of expiring materials.
  • Recording flashpoint information and supporting SAP-related laboratory activities.
  • Creating application tasks in SAP and preparing finished fragrance applications according to perfumer instructions.
  • Supporting perfumers with raw material retrieval, fragrance preparation, and dilution creation for evaluations and training.
  • Performing raw material approvals by assessing color, physical state, and odor consistency against existing standards.
  • Preparing smelling strips and dilution samples for fragrance evaluation and approval.
  • Maintaining accurate records, formula data, trial oil collections, and weekly compounding reports.
  • Ensuring laboratory cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and adherence to EHS and safety guidelines.
