Job summary

PeopleStrong in India is seeking an Anesthesia Technician to prepare equipment, check the anesthesia machine, IV therapy gear, airway devices, and assist during pre-op. You will communicate with patients and verify allergies and medical history.

During anesthesia you ensure patient comfort and assist with monitoring devices; after anesthesia you help wake patients, remove airway devices, and hand over information to recovery staff, while maintaining inventory and billing accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Waking the patient after anesthesia.
• Removing airway devices.
• Transferring the patient to the recovery room.
• Handing over patient information to the recovery room staff.
• Entering used consumables and drugs in anesthesia billing sheet with the anesthetist signature and handing over the billing sheet to the OT store assistant.
• Ensuring replacement and adequacy of anesthesia drugs and consumables in the anesthesia trolley before next surgery in the OT.
• Following inventory management protocol as per policy.

Job Description

Prior to Anesthesia

Anesthesia technicians prepare equipment needed for the patient to safely undergo anesthesia. This involves:

• Checking and setting up the anesthetic machine.
• Preparing intravenous therapy administration equipment.
• Preparing a range of devices to maintain the patient's airway (e.g. laryngeal masks, endotracheal tube)
• Communicating with the patient when they arrive into the operating theatre, verifying the pre-operative checklist for allergies, informed consent and past medical history.
• Applying anesthetic monitoring to help assess the patients' condition whilst under anesthesia.
• This may include electrocardiography (ECG), blood pressure and oxygen saturation devices. The monitoring of other parameters such as anesthesia depth monitors (EEG, bispectral index etc) may also be necessary.

During Anesthesia

• Making sure that patients are positioned in such a way NOT to cause discomfort during their procedure
• Acquiring transfusion fluids and equipment

After Anesthesia

Anesthetic technicians assist the anesthetist with:

• Waking the patient
• Removing airway devices.
• Transferring the patient to the recovery room.
• Handing over patient information to the recovery room staff.
• Entering the used consumables and drugs in Anesthesia billing sheet with due signature of anesthetist and handing over the billing sheet to the OT store assistant.
• To ensure the replacement and adequacy of anesthesia drugs and consumables in Anesthesia trolley prior to next surgery in the OT.
• To follow adequate inventory management protocol as per policy.
