Job summary

hires.best is seeking a shore-based Technical Superintendent in Mumbai to manage a portfolio of dry bulk vessels end to end, drawing on a Marine Engineer/Class-1 background. You will oversee safe, compliant operation, budgets, and performance while acting as the shore-side point of accountability for on-board activities.

Qualifications

• Master Mariner or Marine Engineer Class-1 licensure.
• Minimum 1 year as Chief Engineer on relevant vessel type or 1 year as Technical Superintendent.
• 2–3 years shore-based superintendent experience, preferably bulk carrier background.

Responsibilities

• Plan and control the safe, efficient and compliant technical operation of your assigned dry bulk vessels.
• Manage maintenance, repairs, spares and technical budgets, keeping cost and performance under control.
• Plan and supervise dry dockings and major repair projects from scope to delivery.
• Ensure ISM, ISPS, MLC, class and flag requirements, and drive PSC, vetting and inspection outcomes.
• Oversee procurement of stores, spares and services in line with company procedures and budget.
• Monitor vessel condition, performance and KPIs, and act early on emerging technical issues.
• Lead incident investigation and root-cause analysis, and close out findings.
• Supervise technical assistants and support staff, and keep clear communication with owners and internal teams.
• Attend shore seminars on pollution prevention and new rules and regulations.

Job description

We're looking for a shore-based Technical Superintendent to manage a portfolio of dry bulk vessels end to end - from a Marine Engineer / Master Mariner background, ready to run technical operations, compliance and budgets from our Mumbai office.

Our client is an owner-focused ship management group with a global footprint, operating from offices across Hong Kong, Dubai, Cyprus and India. Built from decades of hands-on shipping experience, we run a client-centric and transparent operating model: direct senior accountability, disciplined technical execution, transparent procurement, clear financial reporting and strong HSQE control. Our scope covers full ship management, dry dock and newbuilding supervision, procurement, insurance and claims support, commercial coordination and crewing oversight. We are growing our technical team in India and looking to bring on experienced superintendents to manage our dry bulk fleet.

As Technical Superintendent, you will plan and control all activities tied to the safe and efficient operation of your assigned vessels. You own the technical performance of your portfolio - keeping ships compliant, reliable and cost-effective - and act as the shore-side point of accountability for everything happening on board. You report to the Technical Manager and work closely with purchasing, crewing and operations.

This is a hands‑on, shore-based role in our Mumbai office.

What We're Looking For

• Master Mariner or Marine Engineer Class-1, with relevant licenses.
• At least 1 year in rank as Chief Engineer on the vessel type you'll handle, or 1 year as Technical Superintendent supervising similar vessels.
• 2-3 years of shore-based superintendent experience, preferably with a bulk carrier background.
• Solid grounding in ISM/ISPS/MLC, class and flag requirements, PSC and vetting, dry docking and technical budgeting.
• Based in or ready to work from Mumbai.
• Fluent English; strong, structured communication with crews, owners and internal teams.
