Job summary

Chubb Life Hong Kong is seeking a highly experienced Java Full Stack Lead to drive enterprise-grade insurance technology solutions. You will lead end-to-end design, development, and delivery, setting standards, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with global stakeholders to ensure reliable, scalable architectures.

The role requires 12–15 years of software experience and hands-on expertise in Java, Spring, microservices, cloud platforms, and modern UI frameworks.

Qualifications

Position Overview:

Chubb is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Full Stack Java Technical Lead to lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-grade insurance technology solutions. The role requires strong expertise in Java, cloud-native development, microservices architecture, modern UI technologies, AI technologies and engineering leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end design, development, deployment, and support of full-stack applications.
• Drive design decisions, coding standards, and engineering best practices.
• Develop scalable solutions using Java, Spring Boot, Microservices, REST APIs, Angular/React, and cloud technologies.
• Create optimised API endpoints tailored to specific frontend application requirements
• Implement data transformation, aggregation, and filtering logic to reduce frontend complexity
• Integrate BFF services with existing Process APIs within our microservice architecture
• Develop efficient API contracts that minimise over-fetching and under-fetching of data
• Implement caching strategies to optimise performance and reduce load on downstream services
• Integrate with existing Process APIs and domain microservices
• Design and implement service-to-service communication patterns (REST, GraphQL, messaging)
• Handle API versioning, backwards compatibility, and graceful degradation
• Implement circuit breakers, retry logic, and fault tolerance patterns
• Monitor and optimise API performance, latency, and throughput
• Implement API security measures including JWT authentication, OAuth2, and token validation
• Apply input validation, sanitisation, and security best practices
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices
• Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members
• Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests for BFF services
• Conduct code reviews, design reviews, and mentor engineering teams.
• Collaborate with product, business, and architecture stakeholders globally.
• Drive CI/CD, DevOps, security, observability, and reliability initiatives.
• Lead planning, estimation, risk management, and technical delivery.

Qualifications

• 12-15 years of software engineering experience.
• Minimum 3 years of technical leadership or team leadership experience.
• Strong hands‑on expertise in Java 11/17+, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Microservices.
• Experience with Angular or React.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
• Experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP.
• Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies.
• Experience leveraging AI‑assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, documentation, and testing.
• Experience implementing automated code generation, test automation, code review, and engineering productivity solutions using AI technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in Insurance or Financial Services domain.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or JMS messaging platforms.
• Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Insurance domain knowledge is an added advantage. Candidates with prior experience in Property & Casualty (P&C), Claims, Underwriting, Policy Administration, or Digital Insurance platforms will be preferred.
• Experience working with globally distributed engineering teams.
