Job description

Technical Lead Full-Time Department Employment Type Engineering / Delivery Work Mode Full-time Experience In office Reports To 58 years, including team/technical leadership Chief Technology Officer (CTO) About Inceptive Technologies Inceptive Technologies is an AI-led product engineering and digital transformation company serving clients across the USA, Canada, UK, and India. Over 11+ years we have built and scaled 120+ MVPs and delivered 150+ enterprise transformations, for organizations ranging from early-stage startups to Fortune 500 companies including Honeywell. Our engineering work spans cloud SaaS platforms, systems integration, AI agents, hardware/device integration, and data engineering — with particular depth in multi-integration operational platforms that connect internal workflows to external partner systems and physical hardware. We run several client engagements concurrently, each with its own stack, integrations, and delivery rhythm. We're hiring a Technical Lead & Project Manager to take ownership of one of our flagship engagements — a large, multi module Property Management System (PMS) build for a budget-hotel portfolio — and to grow into a portfolio role leading additional projects alongside it.

What You'll Own
Technical Leadership
  • Own the technical architecture and core data model for your primary project, in collaboration with the development team — including how the system is decomposed into modules, how integrations (third-party APIs, hardware/device drivers, external partner systems) are structured, and how open technical questions get resolved before they become schedule risk.
  • Review designs and code at a level sufficient to catch architectural drift, scope gaps, and integration risk early — you don't need to write production code daily, but you need to be able to read it, question it, and reason about it with the engineers.
  • Run technical discovery: turn ambiguous or incomplete requirements (missing specs, undocumented legacy behaviour, “to be provided” items) into a scoped, sequenced technical plan.
  • Evaluate and stand up new technology building blocks as needed — third-party integrations, AI/LLM tool-calling layers, hardware driver frameworks — pulling in the right specialist knowledge (internal or external) when a domain goes beyond generalist depth.
Project & Delivery Management
  • Run Agile/Scrum delivery end to end: sprint planning, backlog grooming, sprint reviews, and demos, for a small dedicated team working in two-week sprints.
  • Own the phase-by-phase delivery plan — sequencing modules, tracking velocity against estimates, and re planning when discovery changes the picture, without letting scope drift silently.
  • Maintain a live view of risk, dependencies, and open items (e.g., pending third-party partner access, hardware/vendor unknowns, regulatory or compliance reviews) and drive them to closure rather than letting them sit as blockers.
  • Manage provisional or ranged scope responsibly: know when an estimate needs to be re-confirmed with the client before committing a team's time to it.
Client & Stakeholder Management
  • Be the primary day-to-day point of contact for the client during active delivery — running stakeholder interviews, sprint demos, and phase checkpoints.
  • Translate between client stakeholders (operations, finance, IT) and the engineering team in both directions: turn business requirements into engineering-ready specs, and turn technical trade-offs into decisions a non-technical stakeholder can make.
  • Communicate status, risk, and scope changes proactively and in writing — no surprises at the end of a phase.
Team Leadership
  • Lead a small team of full-stack developers (and, as engagements grow, QA and other specialists) — setting technical direction, unblocking day-to-day issues, and holding the team to a quality bar.
  • Mentor engineers on the team, including on technologies or domains that are new to them.
Portfolio Scope
  • Start by owning delivery of one flagship engagement end to end, then take on technical/PM leadership of additional concurrent projects as capacity allows — each potentially on a different stack, for a different client, at a different stage of its lifecycle.
  • Bring consistent delivery practices (estimation discipline, sprint cadence, risk tracking, client communication) across whichever projects you lead, so quality doesn't depend on which stack or client is involved.
What We’re Looking For
  • 5–8 years in software engineering, with meaningful time spent as a tech lead, engineering manager, or technical project/delivery manager — not purely an individual-contributor track.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a project's technical architecture and its delivery plan at the same time — comfortable being the person who both designs the system and runs the sprint board.
  • Strong hands‑on engineering background (any modern stack — web backend, frontend, or full‑stack) with the ability to read and reason about an unfamiliar codebase quickly. Deep expertise in one specific framework is not required.
  • Real experience running Agile/Scrum delivery — sprint planning, backlog management, velocity tracking, retrospectives — not just familiarity with the vocabulary.
  • Experience with systems that integrate multiple external parties — third‑party APIs, partner platforms, or hardware/device integrations — and the judgment to scope that kind of integration risk realistically.
  • Excellent client‑facing communication: comfortable running stakeholder interviews, presenting status and trade offs to non‑technical stakeholders, and writing clear, honest scope and risk updates.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity — turning incomplete or evolving requirements into a scoped, sequenced plan rather than waiting for a finished spec.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with PHP/Laravel (our current flagship project's stack) or with another comparable modern web framework.
  • Experience in hospitality‑tech, travel‑tech, or another operationally complex, multi‑stakeholder vertical (e.g., PMS, channel management, booking/reservation systems).
  • Exposure to AI/LLM tool‑calling or agentic layers built over internal APIs.
  • Experience with hardware/device integration (payment terminals, ID/card readers, IoT‑style driver frameworks) or with compliance‑sensitive domains (data privacy, financial/tax reporting).
  • Prior experience managing more than one active client engagement simultaneously.
What We Offer
  • Ownership of a flagship, technically substantial engagement from day one, with a clear path to a multi‑project portfolio leadership role.
  • Direct working relationship with the CTO and founding team — fast decisions, no bureaucracy.
  • Exposure across a genuinely broad engineering surface: SaaS platforms, third‑party integrations, hardware/device drivers, and AI agent layers.
  • A work setup and a small, senior, delivery‑focused team culture.
