The Technical Lead, Power Electronics is a highly motivated individual working as part of a research and development team to design and develop high‑frequency double conversion online UPS systems. The candidate should have good written and verbal communication skills and be able to work in a team effectively. This position requires support for new products as well as legacy products. The individual is an energetic, experienced professional who can work both individually and with a global team. This position will be in Bangalore, India reporting to the Technical Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop power electronics for high‑frequency online UPS systems.
- Design and implement digital/analog power electronics circuits.
- Perform MATLAB/Simulink simulations.
- Perform MATLAB Embedded coder Firmware modifications.
- Modify existing Firmware code, or provide new code as needed.
- Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of circuits.
- Oversee the assembly and integration of electronic prototypes.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation.
- Manage assigned projects from concept through commercialization.
- Develop and validate power stages and perform detailed design verification testing (including regulation, programming accuracy, transient performance, etc.).
- Implement upgrades and new features for existing product lines.
- Provide engineering support, including troubleshooting hardware issues and identifying root causes; proposing corrective actions; evaluating hardware and recommending improvements; and processing product documentation (schematics, BOMs, assembly drawings, ECOs, etc.).
- Conduct product evaluation testing and generate formal summary reports.
- Contribute to the rapid prototyping for new designs.
Required Skills and Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline, with focus/experience on power electronics.
- 6+ years of experience developing power conversion products (UPS, battery chargers)
- Experience and deep understanding of Power Electronics, controls, and different kinds of power converters
- Power electronics Firmware development, and integration skills (preferably TI C2000 family)
- Experience working with analog, digital, and microcontroller circuits.
- A deep understanding, and practical knowledge of power switches, such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, SCRs, SiC technology, and related high frequency applications.
- Familiar with various control loop designs (e.g. PI, PID, Feed forward etc).
- MATLAB/Simulink modelling, simulations, and analysis skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Global teamwork experience.
- Can read and understand schematics.
- Use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and proficiency in generating test reports and presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering, with focus on power electronics.
- Experience or understanding of UPS Parallel Operation, ‘N+1’ UPS, and modular design.
- Experienced in MIL-STD-461F, MIL-STD-1399-300B, MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-167A etc.
- PCB design and layout using Altium.
- Magnetic design (Inductor and Transformer including High Frequency).
- Validation and verification experience.
- Experience in relevant or similar industries: motor drives, power supplies, etc.
- Experience with EMI/EMC mitigation techniques.
