Job summary

Aurora Energy Research in Gurugram, India, invites a Senior Software Engineer - Technical Lead to join our expanding software team. You will provide hands-on leadership to grow the team, drive projects, and collaborate with Oxford-based colleagues to deliver innovative solutions for global energy markets.

You will guide architecture, lead delivery, mentor engineers, and ensure high-quality software using Microservices, TypeScript, AWS, and modern frontend/backend stacks.

Internal role title: Senior Software Engineer - Technical Lead

Department: Tech - Software Engineering

Location: Gurugram, India

Based in Gurugram, you will join our newly established software team as we enter an exciting new phase of expansion. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who will ensure the continued effectiveness, cohesion, and growth of our existing team. In this pivotal role, you will provide hands-on leadership to nurture team performance, foster a collaborative and inclusive culture, and drive the expansion of our capabilities as we continue to deliver innovative solutions in close partnership with Oxford-based colleagues. Your leadership will be key to both sustaining our current momentum and shaping new product ideas that will impact the future of global energy markets. You will be working on cutting-edge Microservices and using TypeScript/ExpressJS/AWS Lambdas and micro-frontends built on React. This will allow you to help with the creation of customer-facing software from design to deployment. You will be working with processes and tooling that allow you to release changes to our customers multiple times a day. The successful applicant will also have exceptional problem solving and technical capabilities combined with a passion to deliver great solutions for our users.

Key Responsibilities

What we are looking for

Required attributes

• Demonstrated ability to lead and nurture an established team, fostering collaboration, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
• Proven success in leading or collaborating within distributed or remote teams, with a focus on proactive communication and inclusion.
• Substantial commercial experience in developing complex software solutions with some of the following Node/TypeScript, ExpressJS, React, SQL, NoSQL, Cloud Infrastructure or similar.
• A proven track record for delivering great software and solving difficult technical problems.
• Experience in running a software team with a portfolio of projects.
• The ability to technically lead a project from inception to completion.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, and a great team player.
• Experience supporting and developing team members through mentoring and coaching.
• Experience of unit testing.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines.

Desirable attributes

• Experience of Python
• Experience using delivery metrics (e.g., DORA) to inform team practices.
