Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Analyze market conditions for scrap types, supply-demand dynamics, pricing trends and regulations.
• Identify and onboard partners (yards, aggregators, dismantlers, OEMs, logistics) for scrap.
• Identify required technologies and infrastructure; prepare capex, business case, board notes; evaluate land/locations.
• Plan and execute projects per approved scope, schedule, budget and quality standards.
• Supervise installation, testing and commissioning activities.
• Identify project risks, delays, and technical problems; implement corrective actions.
• Develop business framework for setting up scrap collection and processing centres.
• Coordinate day-to-day site activities with civil, electrical, instrumentation, and other disciplines.
• Carry out commissioning, trial runs and performance testing of mechanical systems.

As a strategic step towards Sustainability: JSW Steel has established a Steel Recycling Business to cater the growing scrap demand. As part of this initiative, the state-of-the-art Scrap Processing Facility of ~0.5 MTPA is planned in the vicinity of Chennai. This plant encompassing shredding & baling operations to ensure high-quality scrap supply to the plant in the vicinity of Chennai.

Strengthening the Scrap Supply Chain:

To further secure and enhance scrap availability, it is imperative to establish collection and processing centres across strategic locations.

Role Scope & Key Deliverables

• The role covers the entire value chain - from conducting comprehensive market studies and building the business case to securing requisite approvals, driving plant setup, and managing operations thereafter.

This includes in-depth market analysis, strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and coordination with vendors, contractors, and internal stake holders.

Key Result Areas (Key Performance Indicators)

• Analyze market for scrap types, supply-demand dynamics, pricing trends, and regulatory changes in the Domestic & International Market
• Identify, evaluate, and onboard partners (yards, aggregators, dismantlers, OEMs, logistics) for obsolete and prompt scrap.
• Identifying required technologies & infrastructure, Prepare capex, business case, board notes, and evaluate land/locations for setting up scrap processing centres.
• Plan and execute projects according to approved scope, schedule, budget, and quality standards.
• Supervise installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Identify project risks, delays, and technical problems and implement corrective actions.

Critical Tasks

• Developing Business Framework for setting up Scrap Collection & Processing Centres.
• Identifying the required technology & infrastructure for the processing units such as equipment, land & plant infra, etc
• Ensure equipment selection and design comply with project specifications and applicable engineering standards
• Prepare technical specifications, RFQs, BOQs, and equipment datasheets
• Prepare technical evaluation of mechanical equipment and vendor offers
• Ensure execution is in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, and quality requirements.
• Coordinate day-to-day site activities with civil, electrical, instrumentation, and other disciplines
• Carryout commissioning, trial runs, and performance testing of mechanical systems
• Monitor project progress and identify delays, technical risks, and interface issues and initiate corrective actions
• Take over the plant for operation post commissioning

Educational Background And Work Experience

• Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years of working in Project Execution and Supply chain

Competencies

• Experience in business development, sales, or supply chain roles within the steel, scrap, recycling, or waste management industry
• Knowledge of local and international scrap market regulations and compliance.
