The ideal candidate will supervise junior nurses and allied staff, participate in rounds, ensure adherence to hospital policy, and maintain smooth interdepartmental communication.

Aufgaben

• Check the communication book for any new instructions during every shift
• Check the assignment Register to know the assignment for the shift
• Check and verify the inventory of all equipment, and instruments as per the inventory register and inform the Nurse Manager in case of any discrepancies noted
• Inquire and know about department census, admissions, transfers, deaths, and medico-legal cases
• Oversee patient details for special investigations, invasive procedures, or surgery and notify doctors as needed
• Ensure documentation and nursing assessments are completed for assigned patients
• Take rounds of all admitted patients and inform the Doctor on duty
• Guide and support staff to plan, implement and evaluate nursing care
• Ensure doctor’s instructions are carried out and documented
• Attend Consultant rounds and update patient records with changes or special instructions
• Assist with bedside procedures and monitor patients per hospital protocol
• Complete shift report and ensure adequate medicines and supplies for patients
• Prepare patients for surgeries or procedures and coordinate transfers to other departments if required
• Maintain patient comfort and ensure replacement of used medicines and consumables
• Ensure billing for procedures and investigations is completed and all documents are finished
• Review patient records for changes or new orders and update accordingly
• Endorse patients to the next duty team leader and maintain good interpersonal relations
• Communicate patient needs to concerned departments or persons
• Night shift training: participate in staff education, orientation, SOP training, competency assessments, and supervise junior staff
• Demonstrate BLS and ACLS certification as required

Job Description

• Inquire and know about the following:
• Department Census
• Admissions in the department
• Transfer in and Transfer out
• Death
• Medico- legal Cases
• Details of patients undergoing special investigations/invasive procedures and or Surgery
• Details of patients requiring special considerations (Barrier Nursing Precautions, VIPs, Relatives of Employees etc.)
• Planned discharges during the shift
• Others: Issues related to Support Services (Diet/Laundry/Stores/Pharmacy/Maintenance/CSSD/Bio-Medical/Billing/Housekeeping etc)
• Interdepartmental lending /borrowing of equipments or consumables and drugs
• Take over from the previous shift team leader
• Ensure that the team members have completed the Nursing Assessment and completed the documentation of their assigned patients
• Take round of all admitted patients in the unit and inform necessary details to the Doctor on duty
• Guide and provide necessary assistance to the team members to plan, prioritize, implement and evaluate nursing care
• Ensure that all the instructions given by the doctor is carried out and documented as per hospital policy by the assigned staff
• Attend the Consultant's rounds and update changes/special instructions in patient's record
• Ensure completion of changes / special instructions as advised by the Consultant
• Assist for procedures as required at the bedside
• Monitor patients closely as per hospital protocol or as advised by the doctor
• Complete documentation in the Shift Report Register according to hospital protocol
• Ensure that adequate supply of medicines and consumables are available with the patient and in the department
• Ensure that patients are prepared for surgeries / procedures as indicated
• Arrange to shift the patients to other departments if required as per Hospital Policy
• Ensure the comfort of the patient and family at all times
• Ensure replacement of medicines and consumables used from the departmental stock
• Ensure that billing of all procedures and investigations done during the shift are completed
• Complete all relevant documents
• Check the patient’s records for any changes, special orders etc. and update as needed from time to time
• Check and receive all pending investigations reports, if any
• Ensure patients needs for activities of daily living are met as required by the assigned nurses
• Maintain ward safety and provide safe environment.
• Report any special events during the shift to the Nurse Manager and or Deputy Nursing Officer/Chief Nursing Officer
• Ensure that all admissions, transfers, Death and discharges are entered in the Admission Discharge Register
• Ensure that the shift report is completed
• Endorse the patients to the next duty Team leader
• Maintain good interpersonal relationship with all employees, patients, families and community.
• Ensure that patient's and or family's communications/requirements are attended or communicated to the concerned department/person
• Additional Responsibilities during Night Shift:

  • Completes Competency Assessments
  • Supervise and guide Junior Staff nurses, Health Care Assistants and Housekeeping staff
  • Supervise patients and visitors for maintenance of health promotion
  • Valid BLS and ACLS Certification
• Communication Skills:
• Ability to comprehend verbal instructions given by the supervisor or head of the department / doctors.
• Ability to comprehend and communicate effectively with patients, relatives, other departments and social and or community agencies
• Ability to comprehend written instructions given by the Doctors and the other related departmental personnel / doctors
• Technical Skills:
• Competent to assess and monitor critically ill patients
• Competent to handle the following situations in the CCUs
• Admissions
• Transfers- Intra-hospital and inter-facility
• Discharges from CCU
• Deaths
• Care of the dead and handing over procedures including mortuary protocol

• Ambulance call protocol
• Assist for Procedures done at the bedside
