Job summary

Trojan Technologies seeks a Team Lead to build and guide a software engineering team for a strategic cloud-based platform enabling customers to check and improve color measurement device accuracy. This player-coach role blends hands-on coding with people leadership in a global environment.

You will drive cloud-native architectures on AWS, lead frontend and backend evolution, and collaborate with teams across US, Europe, and Asia. Hybrid work is possible from our Bangalore office.

Job Description:

Role Overview

We are seeking a Team Lead to build and lead a team of software engineers developing a strategically important cloud-based platform that enables customers to check and improve the accuracy of their X-Rite color measurement devices.

This is a player-coach role, combining hands-on software development with technical leadership and people management. The role focuses on enabling team effectiveness, technical excellence, cloud-native architecture, and continuous improvement in a global engineering environment.

The team owns a modern web application built with TypeScript, React, Redux, HTML, CSS, AWS, Lambda, Node.js, and serverless technologies, as well as a companion Qt/C++ desktop application responsible for collecting and managing data that is integrated into the cloud platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers
• Hire, onboard, motivate, and coach team members, fostering engagement, growth, and a strong team culture
• Contribute hands-on to software development, including design, implementation, code reviews, and technical problem solving - leveraging AI throughout the software development lifecycle
• Provide technical leadership and guide architectural decisions for both the cloud platform and associated desktop applications in collaboration with global engineering teams (US, Switzerland, India, Germany, Netherlands, North Macedonia)
• Own and evolve scalable, secure, and maintainable cloud-native architectures on AWS
• Drive the evolution of frontend and backend systems, ensuring high performance, reliability, usability, and security
• Collaborate closely with product management, UX, QA, data engineering, and application support teams to deliver customer value
• Facilitate Agile ways of working (Scrum/Kanban), supporting effective planning, execution, prioritization, and delivery
• Establish and continuously improve software engineering practices, including testing, CI/CD, cloud operations, observability, security, and effective usage of AI
• Ensure seamless integration between cloud services and desktop applications that contribute data to the platform
• Work closely with global stakeholders across India, Europe, and the US to align technical direction with product strategy
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, accountability, and engineering excellence

Required Qualifications & Professional Knowledge

• 8+ years of relevant experience in software engineering
• 3+ years of experience leading software engineering teams
• Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining modern web applications
• Several years of experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Redux, HTML, and CSS
• Strong backend development experience with Node.js and TypeScript
• Experience designing and operating cloud-native solutions on AWS or Azure
• Solid understanding of serverless architectures and services such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway, and related cloud technologies
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems and defining application architectures
• Ability to analyze customer and business requirements and translate them into robust technical solutions
• Experience establishing engineering best practices including testing strategies, CI/CD, code quality, monitoring, and security
• Solid understanding of modern web application architecture and software design principles
• Experience collaborating with UX, Product Management, QA, and other engineering disciplines
• Ability to collaborate effectively with global, cross-functional teams
• Solid understanding of the end-to-end software development lifecycle
• Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum and/or Kanban)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Willingness to travel (10%)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading teams developing cloud-native SaaS or enterprise software platforms
• Experience with AWS services beyond Lambda and API Gateway, such as RDS, DynamoDB, S3, CloudWatch
• Experience with DevOps, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud automation
• Experience working with data-intensive applications, analytics platforms, or data pipelines
• Experience working in geographically distributed teams

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of desktop software development using C++ and Qt
• Experience integrating desktop, edge, or device-connected applications with cloud services
• Knowledge of color management, measurement systems, or hardware-connected software solutions

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of experience delivering and evolving commercial software products throughout their lifecycle
• Experience balancing technical leadership, people leadership, and hands-on software development responsibilities
